      Interesting observation.

You think someone isn't paying attention and then they make a comment that shows you otherwise. There is some truth to that, I have to admit. When I was younger I was very angry with them. I felt at the time that I had been lied to about many things in my life - so I decided that I had to find the truth for myself, not what I had been taught.

However, it had more to do with my influences in college. I met some amazingly strong Christians. If the goal was just rebellion - it doesn't explain the direction of said rebellion. What put me in that direction are the people who guided me along that path when I was at school. They had influence because I envied their joy and their happiness - I felt that if God had given them such amazing blessings there must be something to this whole Christianity thing.

      • I find it so hypocritical of you when you want to blast away all of PP when only one conviction has occurred
Hmm? Wouldn't it make more sense that I have sources not readily available here that state otherwise to back my conviction that PP has broken the law, many, many times?

YES, IT WAS AN INSTITUTIONAL PROBLEM
Then why has it stopped? If it had something to do with the core of the Catholic church, it would have persisted. It has not.

It stopped because THEY WERE CAUGHT!

When? The first major settlement was with the diocese of Dallas in 1998 - a full 8 years after the abuse rate had already dropped. Clearly there was something already being done before the court cases in the late 90s.

              Uhhhh...
Sexual abuse by Catholic clergy became the subject of widespread publicly in 1984 with the celebrated case of Father Gilbert Gauthe in Lafayette, Louisiana. This led to numerous revelations of similar cases of abuse around the United States and in other countries as well.
They were caught LONG before 1998... Nice try.

Except that article goes on to say that there wasn't extensive media coverage until the 90s.

Oh... so you need extensive media coverage to get caught?
No... the cat was out of the bag then. So try again

Only 50 per year? Oh wow. That is some progress.

Do you believe that restitution would ever change things in your mind? If no - I don't see much point to further restitution. The Catholic church has cleaned up it's act.
The Church has not cleaned up its act as abuse still happens and perhaps is even underreported.

You cannot leave something you were not a part of. You are Catholic and will always be Catholic. That is your right to leave - but if you choose to return at some point in the future - the Catholic church will be there.
I am not Catholic and will never be Catholic ever again. You are an impulsive disgusting man. You really need some serious help.

The abuse rate still dropped as you claim lmao... Or so what is reported. This doesn't change the fact priests are still messing with kids.

You can see why I left Catholicism. Mainly because of the lies and liars like Ben.

Again, you have no proof PP broke any laws. You just post silly conjectures.

Yet you even admit priests are still raping 50 kids a year (underreported because many rape victims do not report until years later). Then you say it isn't a problem because it was more in the past.

One more time on this one. In reviewing Benedict's resignation speech... nowhere does he say anything that would preclude the later quotes.
Yes he claims it was due to his advanced age and that his mind and body were failing him. But that doesn't preclude that God led him to this decision.
So please point out where you claim he lied? I simply don't see a lie anywhere.

Yet you want to claim the either he or the Vatican are lying.

                          • If someone claims that Benedict XVI still is pope (because he doesn't accept the voluntarily resignation), shouldn't the same person then not also realize that, in this case, the whole apostolic succession is broken (since 1 millenium or more)?

After all Benedict XVI isn't the first pope to resign ... there were some cases already before the 1st millenium ... and the very interesting case of Benedict IX in the 11th century (who first was first forced to resign (by the one who would become his successor), then returned (in order to depose his successor and claim papacy again) and finally resigned a second time, this time out of greediness.

So, if the divinity of the papacy of popes who rule during the lifetimes of their resigned predecessors can be doubted, what does this say about the divine inspiration of the conclave in order to se4lect the successor?
Obviously there is no divine inspiration involved, if the conclave can just select a successor depite gods wishes (to have the resigned pope still at the helm).

There obviously also can be no divine inspiration if god isn't even able to tell the resigning pope not to do it ... or to stop the catholic church from putting it into the rules of canon law of the catholic church, that popes are allowed to resign (if their resignation is made out of their own free will)
