I am not all-knowing, I actually have barely been following this farce. I simply took the minimal time required to look up genuine numbers instead of "some stuff I think I remember" and "I just know the American people really want X." See the line graph? With two lines? Polls for Clinton and Trump over time. You can follow it to find out where they stood on any given date. Just mouseover to June 12th, the date of the Orlando shooting. You will notice that Trump's popularity was sliding well before that date. Within a couple of days after, his line starts going up. It would appear that, if his post-Orlando remarks hurt him, they did so only by blunting a rise in popularity that would otherwise have been higher. THE THINGS YOU ARE SAYING ARE UNEQUIVOCALLY FALSE. Clinton is not comfortably ahead overall--her current lead is less than three percentage points on a two-way match. She has repeatedly come close to being even with him in popularity. She is not secure in swing states. There is no evidence that any individual set of dumb remarks do Trump any lasting damage.

Also the VP's job (except for Cheney) is to sit in the Senate chamber with his thumb up his butt waiting for his superior to kick the bucket. Which has happened, what, twice in the past century? FDR and JFK? You are ascribing intelligence and insight to the average American voter, while simultaneously believing s/he will base his/her vote on which political pet goldfish the candidates choose to attend banquets and fundraisers too boring for them to trouble with attending themselves.

The real figure's still 2.7, her swing-state lead maxes at five in two states, Trump's favorability has clearly waxed and waned erratically (as has hers), and people have been calling him all the names you have and more for over a year without affecting his popularity in any clear way. If you want to insist that, truly, there are no American tanks in Baghdad, that's your business. The facts do not care if you believe them. And the facts seem to indicate that your candidate kind of stinks. Seven-point lead over The Toupee in the most favorable poll.

Pretty much. We're looking at the dogs who live off America's table scraps. For years the Democrats have been promising them better table scraps while calling them bad doggies, whereas the GOP snips at the kibble budget while asking them who's a good boy. Then along comes Trump, promising to upgrade their status from "dog" to "human." AFAICT most of them can tell he's a lying, borderline-crazy skeezewad, but they're still willing to take a chance because they've nothing else to lose.

Clinton: 55.9 unfavorable
Trump: 59.1 unfavorable

EDIT: Also his favorability has been fairly constant since October. Dipped in March, but recovered by the end of May. About a third of the country likes him, six in ten dislike him, the rest are indifferent.
