  • apparently the turks didn't cross the bosporus nor take constantinople until 1500.
If you watched the video, you'd notice that they updated the colors every fifty years. But then that would require actually examining the source.

    One down.

no muslim conquest of sicily, byzantine attempts to the retake it and the subsequent conquest by the normans (a fascinating conflict all round), together with that of malta. cyprus and crete are never taken.
Not sure what you're watching, but the borders expand.

nothing about the conquests of georgia and its subsequent emergence as an independent christian kingdom.
Which lasted about 40 years, during the devastating Seljuk invasion.

according to the video, the crusaders didn't set up any states in the middle east, the whole of which stays green on the map throughout it; and while we're on the subject, where is lesser armenia? spain and portugal are just completely wrong, as is india, and don't get me started on africa. there are a lot crusader battles missing, among the most important being constantinople and nicopolis.
Again, your issues seem to be that you don't understand what the source is showing. The source is making the decision to show conquests that are kept and held for longer than 50 years rather than those which flow back and forth.

there are plenty of other problems besides, which you'd know about if you weren't the worst history teacher on planet earth
The source brutally exposes your 'argument' about the crusades which is why you're nitpicking here.

Anybody who watches it is struck by how Islam expands and that Christianity really hasn't recovered much of anything that was taken. But, that's inconvenient history.

So when your chosen Pope Innocent III damns the rape and murder you're trying to justify, you just dump him and run?

You're trying to justify the Sack of Constantinople. So of course people are going to point out that the Sack of Constantinople was horrific, and that you're trying to justify mass rape and murder.

If you or someone else were to try to justify the rape and murder of Catholics, they'd get the same treatment. But no one is doing so, which is why no one is getting berated for doing that thing which no one is doing.

      • Excellent.

After cheering for people being thrown out of helicopters, Ben cheerleads the murder and rape of innocent people.

I haven't seen anyone more.... "christian"

I understand why you wouldn't want people to believe the truth.

I very much enjoy the way that despite the actual figure being at most probably 60,000, you started at 80,000 and have now reached 'nearly 100,000'. I'm sure by this afternoon we'll be listening to you whine about the tens of millions of innocent Catholics slaughtered.

It's a little rich to whine about the Muslims taking Constantinople, when the only reason they were able to is because the Catholics sacked the place and left Byzantium a faded wreck that never recovered properly.

Well, or course, that makes no sense. The only reason for the Crusades was the constant aggression of the Muslims in the first place.

yes, and it's still wrong in every way that i described and others besides. one of the reasons you're so bad at history is that you're prepared to uncritically accept any old rubbish as long as it supports your views.

in this case, the guy tries to present his video as a battle by battle account of the expansion of islam and compare that with the crusades. he gets it wrong and totally wrong in many places, and yet you're lapping up because it supports your own view. i feel for your students.

The point that the person who created the video is making is true.

He does a pretty good job of doing what he said he would do, which is show how wrong the commonly used narrative is. There were about 550 battles of jihad over about a 900 year period. Can you dispute that?
