  • The outlook of the Russian economy remains bad while Putin's politics just keeps making things worse for Russian businesses. The economy remains mostly just a raw materials export economy and the value of all of those Rae materials are down, industrial output continues to decline, agricultural output is flat despite Putin declaring he will increase domestic farm output, and farm output is unlikely to grow significantly even in the medium term due to farmers not having the money to invest in new land, new machinery, more fertilizer, more irrigation equipment. Transportation systems need a major over haul but that isn't going to happen as the state needs to conserve cash due to sanctions and what does get built tends to be way over priced due to rampant corruption and skimming by the political elites.

And now, as if the Russian economy wasn't in bad enough shape Putin had to go pick a fight with Turkey. Maybe the arrogant S.O.B. should have stopped flying in Turkish airspace after the Turks warned them three times in the past.

Let's see, we lose a supply line to Syria and our campaign against ISIS, Al-Nusra and "Moderate Opposition" slows down significantly.

Turkey loses 60% to 70% (if Iran will also support us) gas suppy. Just before the winter. Sure, sounds balanced.

Besides, naval blockade is an act of war. Sure, USA will be happy, but i doubt that Germany and France will want to side with the likes of ISIS against Russia.

Young Greek women selling sex for the price of a sandwich, new study shows

          By Daniela Deane November 27

Young Greek women are selling sex for the price of a sandwich as six years of painful austerity have pushed the European country to the financial brink, a new study showed Friday.

The study, which compiled data on more than 17,000 sex workers operating in Greece, found that Greek women now dominate the country’s prostitution industry, replacing Eastern European women, and that the sex on sale in Greece is some of the cheapest on offer in Europe.

No, not many. That is because the west takes a huge amount of effort to at least try to not kill civilians. It doesn't always work but it sure as hell is better than Russians not giving a **** about civilians at all.

(else we may have found the reason why they sell it so cheap )

Fact: Hydrocarbons are Russia's major export and it cannot live without that cash for very long. It is like the Arab states in the 1970's who tried to embargo oil to the west; they will come to their knees due to lack of cash long before the foreigners will. That is the problem with dependency, it is a two way street and the other guy always has alternatives which suppliers just don't have.

Fact: we have one of the biggest money reserves on a planet, compared to GDP. So we can live without some minor cast for very long. Living without 2/3 of the gas? That will be problematic.

Well, in a country with a population of 140 million you can always find a couple of idiots. I wouldn't say that they don't exist for sure, but recently liberal protests attract more journalists than actual protesters. Given, for example, that USA used national guard (=army) against their protesters, i would say that things are very calm in Russia.

But yeah, it looks like a satiric posters of an opposition, that laughs at the attempts of Kremlin to put a blame for everything on the West (which is true, but obviously not to an extent shown in the posters).

Had. You are burning through it at Record rates and you also have a large amount of debt that needs rolling over but you are cut out of international financial markets due to Putin's invasion of the Ukraine. That means those obligations have to be financed with a combo of savings and current accounts money or else you default. Do you need a reminder about how bad defaults are for a national economy? Your debts are also in dollars and Euros not local currency.

That is why the government is cash strapped and trying to conserve dollars. All the foreign sales you cut off mean even less hard currency coming in as a current account right when you guys need it most. Thus why Putin has not cut off any gas to Turkey. He can't afford to; not in the short term and not in the long term as that just encourages people to find alternative supplies causing long term strategic problems when Russia has a reputation for being an unreliable supplier.

State governors use the national guard to help local law enforcement. They do not attack anyone but do arrest people if they commit a crime like arson or vandalism. Functionally, it is the same as adding a bunch of additional police to make sure order is maintained.

Yeah, but hey, look how it sounds as a propaganda: "Democratic" USA uses an army against protesters It's so delicious that there is no reason not to say it
After all, national guard is a part of an army in USA, if i'm not mistaken.
