  • Even ignoring the part of the post you guys have been going on about for a page or more, you guys read "God impressed on me that slavery is wrong. Well, our current economic system has wealthy people getting richer and richer and others becoming their servants due to being in debt. If they weren't their servants, how would they eat? If people weren't allow to have servants, how could an economic system exist? Hmm, maybe if everything got reset after some significant time, let's say two generations (50 years), and let's say that servants could not be treated poorly. The reset couldn't just be freedom because otherwise the people would get back into debt and have to become servants again, so the reset would have to be a reset of wealth and a cancellation of debt." and thought that I was talking about myself?

    Are you idiots?

No, he's a completely and utter dick, esp to those who are religious.

FTR, I don't see what is wrong with Jon's statement. Lori's statement explains it well.

You said that the Bible said that rape was OK (in a particular situation, where the girl marries the rapist). I then responded with explaining how the passage came to be (remember, it was not written from God but by Moses (if you are a believer) or by some priests (if you are a doubter). Namely I posted that Moses (or the writer) was impressed by God that rape was wrong (his conscience was touched) and then attempted to express that into the culture of the time (the culture of the writer, where rape was not wrong, whether it was of women or children or strangers). The result was the instruction that the man should be punished or marry the woman.

I don't see how you could read my post any think that I was talking about myself, the post would make no sense at any level.

        JM
Yeah, I get all that and it's still rape at the end of the day - you just explained god condoning rape.

Interesting - please point out where I even address this point of yours? FYI I totally ignored it.

And you ask if I'm the idiot?

            • No, I explained why the Bible (in the first, oldest parts) gives the instruction for a man to marry the woman he raped.

That wasn't God condoning rape, that was Moses giving an instruction to people in his time/place after being impressed that rape was wrong (and that it was also wrong for the raped woman to be abused and sold into slavery, which is what happened to women who couldn't find husbands (which raped woman couldn't), in that time/place).

                So?

If you're going to believe in something nonsensical and unscientific without a shred of proof, you deserve to have scrutiny applied to those beliefs.

Maybe he could be more diplomatic. Sure. I could as well.

I have more respect for people who have a good moral compass but are rough around the edges as opposed to people who put on a nice front but really have terrible, fucked up beliefs.

So, I'm totally justified in calling him a ****stain then? I'm more comfortable using that term for him than I am for Jon, who is a very nice and kind person both on this site and IRL (well, Facebook RL ).

I can see why you dislike me, Imran, because as a religious traitor, you've converted for purely arrogant and selfish reasons - I don't like this version of god, I prefer THIS version - surely if god truly existed, it would not be your decision?

The only reason 'I'm being a dick' is because you and your fellow Christians don't like it when you slag off another religion and are called out on it - it's blatant hypocrisy when Christianity's hands are just as bloodsoaked and you well know it!

I read this and interpret in a way that allows for rape being morally good (or neutral) as long as you believe god has "impressed" it upon you.

What the hell is stopping you from going on a shooting rampage or something? If you heard a voice that you thought was God, would you do it?

That's what scares me about you JM. The "God" experience is an internal process in the brain. It has been documented (though I'm not going to research and find the support at this time).

Seems like the only thing holding you back from committing or condoning horrible crimes is the belief that God doesn't want you to... right now.

Yeah, if you're going to rape someone, you have to keep raping the same person. God condoning rape

They attacked Midian just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder. They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived. After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves. (Numbers 31:7-18 NLT)
Translation: GOD "Kill all the men and male children, and any woman who is not a virgin. Now you have brutally murdered the virgins' families, rape and forcibly marry, or forcibly marry and rape them. Oh and now you've married them, they're your possessions (slaves) so you can keep on raping them."

                            MOSES: "Wow, thanks god dude"

                            GOD: "You're welcome"

                            • To Sava, almost everyone other than the people who have lived in the last ~20 years are frightfully evil monsters. The change (and improvement) in behaviour and conscience of the collective population hasn't been do to religion (or even humanism) but is due to people of the last ~20 years just happening be good while almost everyone before just happened to be complete monsters.

Or, he hasn't ever read a history book.
