The huge carving into the side of Stone Mountain of Generals Lee, Longstreet, and Jackson was a famed meeting point for the Klan.
The carving was only completed in 1972. Pretty hard to associate the Klan of the 20s with the carving of the 70s.
(seriously they get more pissed at being called Traitors than White Supremacists - like they acknowledge that part of it)
Probably because they weren't the ones who suspended Habeaus Corpus. You do recall that Lee was recruited by the North?
The Civil war started when Lincoln tried to raise troops in Virginia to go to war with South Carolina. Virginia declined. Lincoln decided to go to war with Virginia too.
Had Lincoln deployed troops from the North, it's unlikely it would have spread.

From your own source...
Its first appearance in American history was in the South, organized for only a short number of years between 1865 and 1872. The group was started by a group of 6 men from Pulaski, Tennessee, mainly as an elaborate game and roleplay of wearing eerie costumes while riding on horseback. It didn’t take long for the Ku Klux Klan (its name, supposedly, derived from the Greek word kuklos, which means “circle”) to go from a fraternal organization to a vigilante group bent on violence. An ex-Confederate general, Nathan Bedford Forrest, was chosen to be the Klan’s first leader.
There have been many different KKK organizations... Today, the Klan is made up of many different groups and is not a single entity. For you to claim that the KKK did not start in the south is simply wrong. It did start there... and that's a fact. You can now back track and start claiming that you meant that specific group of the Klan in the 20's... but the Klan was around long before then... and was started in the South.
But now you've given him the chance to claim that Klan membership is the only indicator white supremacy, and he's never going to let that go
Sheesh, that's Proteus' argument. Not mine.

Strange that a guy from Canada who moved to the US because he supposedly loves the country so much, is so keen to ally himself to traitors who almost destroyed the United States. It's almost like there must be some additional reason for him loving the confederacy that I just can't quite put my finger on..
No, of course not ... the KKK isn´t required for a state to endorse white supremacy and be deeply racist
...
Racial segregation began in Mississippi following the Civil War, with a handful of state laws requiring separate facilities for black and white school children in addition to statutes requiring three restroom facilities in public buildings: one for white males, one for white females, and one for black males and females. Otherwise, segregation arose by local custom more than it did by state or municipal law. Since segregation was a customary practice, historians consider it to be one that mandated social distance between whites and blacks rather than physical distance. In most Mississippi communities from the late 1800s until the 1970s, blacks and whites lived in relative proximity to one another, and whites depended on the labor of blacks either as agricultural or domestic workers. White and black children often played together until they reached puberty, at which time parents began instructing their children about the racial status quo.
White children learned that they were superior to their black counterparts while black children learned the vacillating and arbitrary customs of Jim Crow, which often differed from community to community. By 1900, racial segregation had become more rigid and the customary nature of the practice made it difficult for African Americans to challenge it legally.

Why would it be surprising? I'm a strong proponent of federalism. I live in a state that used to be it's own republic before the Confederates were even around.
Secondly, I believe the changes enacted by Lincoln to strengthen the power of the federal government have been negative to the United States of America.

I notice you cut out the portion that states Jim Crow was a democrat.

Hi I'd like to move to your country because I love it so much. Obviously I also support the traitors who tried to destroy it, but yay America!
PS. I also don't understand the Southern Strategy despite having a history degree and having had it explained to me many, many times. Can I teach in your schools too please?

Right, because a Canadian immigrant who openly abhors Obama is tremendously unpopular here in Texas.
You don't understand, Kentonio. Texas sees itself as it's own country. Our now Governor-elect described his former job as Attorney General as, "I go to work, I sue Obama, I go home."
Texas is 3x the size of the United Kingdom. About the same size as France.

Why would this matter ... it is open knowledge that the southern democrat party 100-150 years ago supported slavery.
No reason for me to deny it, despite I prefer the US-Democrats over the US-Republicans.
What matters to me is, how Republicans and behave now (i.e. during the last 1-2 decades)

Say what you will about Col. Reb but he's a better mascot for UM than the Louisiana Black Bear or the Landshark.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Jim Crow was the 1950s. And that, encapsulates my point.
