The students there are adults. If you believe that sex outside of marriage is wrong, and that you shouldn't dress provocatively, that rock music is bad etc. etc. then surely you are capable at the ages of 18-22 of just...not doing those things? Without being told?

Okay, I lied, two quick notes:

      1. "Mystical" in my experience usually refers to a highly subjective experience of the supernatural, which is still fine, God Helmets notwithstanding. [/pedantic]

      2. I think you don't understand what actually motivates people to believe. If a man believes, and perceives science to be hostile, he will simply write off science as bull**** and be unpersuaded by anything it says. If he is persuaded, it will not be by logic as such. Modern trumpeting of science as the answer to everything is a symptom of the secularist mindset's triumph, not its cause.

Never stop Wiggy, you're a gem

My roommate was a fat loser who will probably never get laid, I only lived in the dorms one year, it's too cold in Rochester for board shorts, and my room was relatively spacious, like 160 square feet or something. So no, I'm sorry, I never experienced those things.

I'll grant you though his music taste was pretty bad. He listened to K-pop and and JRPG soundtracks.

VVVV Okay I edited again for you

              Done, just for you

FYI though I didn't ever apply to West Point, although half the cadets in my ROTC program probably did. I didn't decide to join until the end of my freshman year.

Every, and I do mean every, Republican presidential candidate must go there to pay homage and repeat what ever foul bigoted **** the fundies are demanding this week. Bob Jones University's diploma isn't worth **** in the real world, they don't even have any of the major accreditations (just some garbage the fundies invented for themselves), yet BJU grads ruled the Bush Administration and made up most of the staffers for congressional republicans. Jones demands that any candidate he endorses agree to employ his uneducated religious extremists as a requirement to get the endorsement and access to money from several evangelical super pacs.

I'm glad one of the kuchibros has learned of this evil and ducked up place but he's about 15 years too late. Still, better late than never. Btw 5-10 years ago a chick who graduated from BUY wrote a series of articles about what it was like to go there and how she was now belatedly becoming unbrainwashed. It was an excellent read just to hear about the enforced social controlled and authority worship which is required at every level.

So the BJU pilgrimmage is roughly equivalent to taking the Ethanol Pledge in Iowa?

I think it's so great that we've institutionalized the parking and discarding of every candidate's personal ethics (if any) as a sort of entry fee into presidential politics.

I've been aware of it for a while, as I mentioned in the OP; I just hadn't realized that anybody gave a **** about it besides homeschoolers.

Oh yeah, and 15 years ago I was 7 years old, so there's that.

As a Mormon they probably told him he wasn't welcome and championed anyone who wasn't Romney. That's what I don't get; clearly candidates can succeed without giving into the demands of religious extremists yet no one in the Republican party is even trying to suggest they'd be better off not pandering to folks who are repugnant to most Americans.

Anywhoo - it should be possible to rationally assess the quality of the programs without having to invoke prejudice against the philosophy of the school. Does the school have, in actuality, substandard programs? I teach for a Catholic school. We do a pretty good job of having faith integrated to the program. I don't see how believing God will bless you and your life needs to get in the way of the actual facts. Yes, God loves you, but you should be able to do calculus just as well as anyone else.

Two, I believe that accreditation should be restricted to schools that actually produce graduates that can achieve what they need to do in their field. Is Bob Jones deficient? Let's find out. Have some standardized testing, and test all their students. If their students perform reasonably well, then they get to keep their accreditation. If they fail in certain subjects then they would lose their accreditation in those subjects.

Three, as for prejudice against their school philosophy, it's a free market. Private institutions should be allowed to have different philosophies wrt instruction. I don't have a problem with them having a code of conduct, or even, God forbid, educating only honest Baptists. Would I go there? No. But other people should be allowed to seek an education according to their own principles. It's a free country. This school stays open because it's meeting a demand.

Does it annoy me that they have anti-Catholic policies? Yes, but it annoys me substantially less than public schools which have the exact same ideology but use my money to teach it.

BK should have every reason to think this school is stupid, if he actually is Catholic.
Would I go there? No. Plenty of better schools out there, but I think it should be open so that folks can go there if they want to go. As for accreditation, we have actual means to assess that properly. If it's an actual question, let's find out.

It also helps that science has basically crushed the **** out of any element of the mystical for western religions, something that in low information societies still holds power.
Hmm, the same science that teaches action-at-a-distance?
