The governor has ordered the local police force to stand down. The highway patrol for the area is replacing them, for the time being. Good for the governor.
A new hashtag has appeared - sounds like fun - Who wants to play?
#iftheygunnedmedown-trending
The fatal police shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., has prompted an online movement examining how the media chooses to represent black victims.
Criminal defence lawyer C.J. Lawrence of Jackson, Mo., started the hashtag #IfTheyGunnedMeDown Sunday when he tweeted two images — one that shows him holding a bottle of booze, and another that shows him smiling and wearing a graduation gown and cap.
Lawrence asked: "Which photo does the media use if the police shot me down?"

Seriously. The police should have only been on scene in a hands off capacity in case the situation escalated. The time to have been out in force was the 12th in order to tamp down on the looting and violence that happened then. This show of force against peaceful protest was needlessly inflammatory to citizenry and is counterproductive to both public order and a positive relationship with the community.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara

I don't know whether the kid tried to grab the gun or not, or what happened with that officer, but I have zero sympathy for rioters.
"The police killed a teenager, let's destroy local businesses! That'll show them!"
The militarization thing doesn't functionally mean the police have heavier weapons than they used to. Police departments do need armored cars from time to time and have used them for decades. It just so happens that now military surplus ones are handed out for free to them by DHS along with all sorts of pointless silly toys. No police department would ever buy this **** out of its own budget. If you want to solve the police militarization problem, you can do it in one stroke by removing the DHS program that hands that crap out.

Wrong again rex-
FERGUSON, Mo. - A huge crowd of people protesting the death of a black Missouri teenager shot by a white police officer have gathered in Ferguson, chanting and carrying signs.
The protests come as the Missouri State Highway Patrol is taking over supervising security in the St. Louis suburb amid criticisms of the police response.
Several people stopped to shake hands with police and troopers. Some have stopped to hug and chat with Capt. Ron Johnson of the Highway Patrol, who is overseeing security.
The scene stands in stark contrast clashes earlier this week when officers wore riot gear. Crowds have gathered since Saturday's shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
The mood Thursday is almost jubilant. A steady line of cars driving by the scene is honking and waving at the protesters. There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.
