So there is now o e New case in the US supposedly from someone who recently traveled to west Africa. I'm not sure why someone would travel to an outbreak zone and not follow the medical guidelines to help minimize exposure. In other news the US military is supposedly setting up 17 military field hospitals in Liberia and staffing them with military medical personnel so that should help with the shortage of trained medical people.

Not if it's here. Doesn't do much good to fight the fire if it jumps your breakers. Containment first. IF they can contain it to just Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, it makes it a helluva lot easier. All the flights out should be shut down.

Nonsense. The US has very good medical isolation units and strong training on how to deal with contagious patients. The threat of it becoming an outbreak here is tiny since they will trace everyone this person has been in contact with.

I hear several west African cultures have a tradition of touching or kissing dead bodies even by people who are not relatives or close friends but just neighbors or acquaintances. As it spread from personal contact or by bodily fluids this is problematic especially as most of them die bleeding from every opening in the body. There is another issue of family wanting to inherit things including things like mattresses and bed linens so they resist burning them and so die themselves.

This guy already came in on the 24th and was turned away. It took two hospital trips just to get him squared away. He's already had a week to infect folks. Now, it's just a question as to how many people he got along the way, and whether they can find them all. It's already an outbreak.
