I guarantee you anyone who claims to eat a lot but can't put on weight is actually not eating a lot. It defies chemistry for someone to be in a caloric surplus and not put on weight. I know for my size (6'2" 185lbs) and moderate activity level, I must consume 3000 calories a day to maintain weight. Unless I eat fast food or drink 1/2 to a full gallon of milk a day, it is difficult to be in a caloric surplus.
For anyone attempting to gain weight, I recommend drinking considerable amounts of milk (1/2 gallon a day) because it's easier to get a caloric surplus with liquids. 1/2 a gallon of whole provides 1200 calories.
