l2read. From the OP: Opponents fear that sale of smart guns would trigger a New Jersey law requiring that all guns sold in the state be equipped with smart technology within three years after it becomes available.

It seems a lot of our national debates revolve around the irrational fears of a paranoid group of extremists.
To us, it is the BEAST.

That one's not really irrational given the fact that it is in fat the law in New Jersey.

Where in the constitution does it talk about the sale of drugs and guns? You can't just add your own articles and amendments, it doesn't work like that

Are you arguing that private gun sales are illegal?
You appear to be arguing that it would be unconstitutional to make private gun sales illegal. Is this what you're arguing? If yes, then where in the constitution does it ttalk about the sale of firearms? If no, then what exactly is your problem with smart guns?

Its not unconstitutional, but the NJ law sounds like a pain in the ass, which is of course no reason to threaten someone's livelihood.

It sounds like a bizarre law, like they wanted to just pass a law saying that all gun sales had to be smart guns, but in order to get the law to pass they first had to make it sufficiently confusing

Neither of these places are in New Jersey, so what does it matter? Does the law stipulate where the guns must be sold in order to trigger the law? Soes it say "in New Jersey" or "in the United States"? No? Are they for sale in Germany or anywhere else in the world? If so, case closed! Start the clock!

Doc S, OTOH, is an unconstitutional commie and must be purged! Purged, I say!

Why not? Isn't that the entire point of the second amendment? Having the ability to threaten people who could be construed as taking away your rights?

The system wouldn't even necessarily prevent little Johnny from accidently killing his little friend. Imagine little Johnny picking the gun up and running downstairs to play cops and robbers. They run around the house, then Johnny hides by Daddy's gun cabinet and waits for his friend to enter the room. When Johnny pulls the trigger the weapon is less than 10 inches from the watch so "KABLAM". Boy, will Johnny and his little friend be surprised!
Imagine Jack and Jill going out for tacos. They stay later than planned and end up heading back to their car about midnight. In the hood. Jack gets clubbed, Jill grabs his 'smart gun' and tries to use it against the hoodlum. Click.

They never find the bodies of Jack and Jill. End of story.

I'm still not seeing how that makes the insane paranoid delusions of gun owners... not irrational.
