As for smart guns? Yeah, they are a violation of the 2nd, in that it infringes on the right to private property, to keep and to bear arms. You have the right to be able to buy and to sell your firearms. We don't restrict any other property to 'just one owner'. Why do people try to do it to guns? Because they believe people do not have a right to buy and to own guns, and this is a stealth way to prevent them from doing so.

I just saw the New Jersey politician responsible for the law on Chris Hayes - they're both against the law now - and she tried to make a deal with the gun lobbies. They stop opposing smart gun technologies and she'll get the law repealed. Her stupidity is upsetting enough but politicians blackmailing citizens out of their 1st Amendment rights is sleazy.

I finally won my first solo victory (took me long enough) by organizing a gaggle of newbies to take on the other two veterans of the game and then stabbed one of the newbies exactly at the same time as they NMRed (which I didn't know ahead of time). Not the most hard-fought victory but I'm proud of it. Will try to post on poly more now that it lets me ignore the content of quotes.

Life's been good. Have two sons and will be opening my own business later this month (teaching Korean kids English after school, to start off it'll be just me, my wife and a secretary but we should be able to hire another teacher next year).

Miss all of the old regulars, it's just a bit weird seeing how some long-time posters seem to have gotten pretty thorough personality transplants, but I guess a lot of us (me included) were pretty young when we first started posting.

As for the content of this thread I was under the impression that the NRA was *****ing about smart guns not because they were being required but because having them for sale for people who wants to buy them could set the stage for making them mandatory in the future, which seems to be a rather idiotic position. If people want to buy the damn things, let them buy them. Am I missing something?

Yes, conservatives are having a knee-jerk reaction against something because it seems too "liberal". One day someone buys a "smart gun", the next day they might commit some other atrocity like bringing reusable bags to a grocery store.

She didn't buy her own gun in your example, what makes you think she knows where the safety is on a dumb gun? And hoodlum's S&W should be outlawed as an unregistered dumb gun. Any stop and frisk should result in his imprisonment.
What's preventing the hoodlum from buying and owning the gun legally? Two, THAT'S THE WHOLE DAMN POINT OF IT. If you're going to buy two keys, buy two guns.

Lawmakers around the country have been intrigued by the possibilities. New Jersey passed a hotly contested law in 2002 requiring that only smart guns be sold in the state within three years of a smart gun being sold anywhere in the country. A similar measure made it through the California Senate last year, and at the federal level, Rep. John F. Tierney (D-Mass.) also has introduced a mandate.

‘We need the iPhone of guns’: Will smart guns transform the gun industry?

                        Text of the law
For the purposes of this section, personalized handguns shall be deemed to be available for retail sales purposes if at least one manufacturer has delivered at least one production model of a personalized handgun to a registered or licensed wholesale or retail dealer in New Jersey or any other state.
Does this refer to the Federal Firearm License? There are 11 types of FFL, some for manufacturers, some for dealers, some for pawn brokers, some for importers. Does the law specify which types of FFL license apply? If it doesn't all I have to do is get a licensed pawn broker to accept delivery of a smart gun. Man, if I only had the time.

It says "licensed or registered wholesale or retail dealer". The only national license for gun dealers in the US that I know of is the Federal Firearm License. Individula states may have their own licenses or registrations, but that's going to vary from state to state. If you know otherwise please enlighten us.

Good for her. I don't oppose smart guns, but the NJ law had some unforeseen consequences. Maybe lawmakers should apply more reason and less emotion to their work.
