Star Wars was always supposed to be mindless adventure. Lucas couldn't get the rights to Flash Gordon. It was taking it too seriously that was one of the wrong-headed mistakes that ruined the prequels.
Star Trek always took itself seriously, so loud dumb fun was a very bad fit. Jar Jar don't get that, but he was trying to make himself a billionaire on Lucas' model in the first place, and I bet he does a lot less harm here.

And yeah, I know there are some people who say it's actually a deep and thoughtful allegory of post 9/11 foreign policy, but you know what? reference != allegory. Yes, you can draw some parallels between the movie and 9/11, but a deep and thoughtful examination of the issues at hand (especially from a Star Trek perspective) should not conclude that the solution to terrorism is to punch it repeatedly.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.
