Q. Mrs. Scrooge: After dating for two years I recently became engaged to a wonderful man. We've since had the finances talk. Money has always been a bit tight and my fiancé is reluctant to go on big trips or do expensive things. I had no problem with this and simply assumed he earned less than I did. In our time together, we've taken one big international trip and mostly smaller trips around the U.S. We live in a small condo in Boston's Back Bay and he doesn't even own a car. So imagine my shock to learn that he earns nearly double what I do and that he has, at age 29, well over a quarter million in savings. I'm all for prudence (ha, see what I did there!) but surely this is taking it too far and, like Ebenezer Scrooge, forgetting to live life. He says the money is "invested in an IRA that can't be accessed for decades." How do I discuss with him that it's worthwhile to "invest" money in our quality of life?

Q. Should I Come Clean?: My identical twin brother had a drunken one-night stand with a woman two years ago. When asked for his name and contact the next morning, he gave my details—his idea of a joke. I looked her up on Facebook out of curiosity when she texted me, and realized she and I had a lot in common. I met up with her and eventually we became an item. I always had a nagging feeling that I should confess how we actually met. I keep putting it off, fearing her response. I want to propose to her, but feel like maybe I should come clean before we take the next giant step. I'm a fan of your column and I know you often advise people to keep mum about irrelevant sexual details that would only hurt the other partner. Does this come under such category?"The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

I think this is a very important story. It proves that poor people are those who spend a lot of money instead of invest it, and income inequality is just because poor people are so opulent. They want to own cars and enjoy life. So next time you see a beggar in some 3rd world country, feel good about yourself. The reason you're so much richer than they are is that you're more frugal. AMIRITE?

(I'm sorta at a loss about what lead Kuci to post this. Is this what happens when an actuary starts drunken posting? The income inequality in the OP has no explanation other than that the guy makes 2x what the wife does. We can't be sure what she would do if she made 2x what she does. Also, if she's taking international vacations and thinking it's frugal living ... and he earns 2x what she does ... and he's living like a hermit ... what the hell is he doing with all the money? $250k doesn't seem like much. He must be doing lots of blow and hookers...)

Well, surely there will be an effect later in life... when his IRA takes a 50% hit in 2027's "Black Black Friday" market crash (provoked by a massive neutrino explosion at the holodeck manufacturing plant that destroys forecasts for Christmas sales) despair will drive him to break from meditating and leap to his death out of the window of his grass hut. Then he won't make more than she does anymore. If only he had gone on more pleasure cruises this tragedy could have been avoided ...

The "Black Black Friday" market crash will be because, as Scott "Dilbert" Adams tells us, the holodeck will be humanity's last invention.
