Consider the fiance didn't have the finances talk until they got engaged and after they moved in together, I question her judgement.

She posted to slate. I'm surprised she didn't phrase it as a confessional. "Help this crazy younger dude I married isn't actually a commie car-hating prole but is actually an evil capitalist in disguise who refuses to spread the wealth around so I can travel around the world."

Never question a woman's judgement. That's raping her with your questioning.

I think this fits again in this stage of the thread.

Homosexuality is a sin. So is hate.

the problem with your post is that the woman quoted is very deliberately reacting to a bunch of surplus money by saying "oh we should invest it in our quality of life! this saving stuff is for misers"

You are overstating. She is not saying he shouldn't invest anything; she's saying that she thinks he's investing too much for retirement, and not using his money to live life and enjoy things now. I mean if you have over $250,000 at the age of 29, I'm sure you can maybe spending a little bit more, maybe getting a house or bigger condo, if you live in a small one, etc.

That was my thought also. But even then, if he's been able to stash 250gs in a 401k by 29, he must be doing ok.

My dad nickeled and dimed all my life, but bought my brother and sister both houses and still left Mom a lot of money. That's what he'd scrimped all those years for.

He enjoyed retirement while it lasted...

At least having too much money is one of those problems that can be dealt with.
