    • Lori, I told my sister about your post on driving to the wrong drugstore and going straight home. Her face was very sad as she put it into her hands. She's done the exact same thing more than once.

I'll be out of touch tomorrow while driving to somewhere less fascist.

      • I tend to "forget" that depression is an illness with a set of common symptoms. That is to say, I tend to think I'm just a worthless sack of ****. I was reading this CBT book awhile back and came across a section on how pride can be dangerous. One of the examples given was the quote, "It's absurd to say that I can help myself--if I could make myself better, I'd have done it ages ago!" The pride here is in thinking that if what you've done hasn't cured your depression, nothing anyone else can suggest is going to do it either. There's also the perverse pride of thinking that your depression is worse than other people's, which is why you haven't been able to cure it.

Anywho, the point here is that depression is an illness with a set of common symptoms. When I first encountered that line in the book, I laughed (and possibly cried) for several minutes, because I have literally said that (minus the absurd part) many, many times throughout my life. It's really kind of amazing. The brain is this ridiculously complex machine capable of stunning feats of imagination and creativity, and yet in some ways it can be disturbingly simple. Reading that line was kind of a turning point for me, at least for a little while. It helped remind me that I am, in fact, suffering from a disease, and that in order to treat that disease I need to give my brain the right stimulus.

And this all leads back to your sister and I doing the exact same thing. Because, you know. Anyway, I went to the correct pharmacy today, and my drugs will be ready tomorrow.

        • Good man. All through this thread, you are people telling you you're not alone in this, and they're in your corner. I can say that without fear of contradiction -aside from Sava, who is just evil.

On how crippling social anxiety can be? My sister's dog died while she was out of town, as I mentioned at the time. He'd been withering away for years - and he'd stopped eating. Since August, I was cooking for him, as he'd gotten tired of peanut butter and it's hard to go wrong with chicken and rice, handfed. That dog was never right in the head; he thought he ruled us, but we loved him very much. His death came as, not a surprise, but "Oh crap. He HAD to die when it would be MY problem." -And all the sad, too, but that. We knew it was coming soon.

So the next morning, I made it 2/3rds of the way to the vet's office, when I passed an isolated dumpster. God forgive me, but it didn't matter to him anymore and I could tell my sister a comforting lie and not have to deal with the receptionist...

                • Someone with a great sense of irony named it 'Well-butrin'.

'Sickerthanyouwerebeforebutrin' seems more accurate, if not a little off-putting.

Well we haven't really even started to cover the topic. We need some in-depth analysis about why Jesus was at a stripclub ... and conspiracy theories full disclosure about who it was that put the fungus in his edibles

                            • Good - writers write. Generating the first draft is job one. Most people mostly let their inner editor stop them before they get that far.

                              • Woke up in the middle of the night feeling weird. Not sure how to describe it. Feeling kind of fuzzy, mostly. Then I shook uncontrollably for a little while, but I may have just been cold. Not sure. Pretty sure I was gonna die. Didn't, apparently.
