Being gay affects relationships with other people and romantic love is an important part of life. Marijuana is mostly recreational. It's not reasonable to say they're equivalent.Originally posted by Felch View PostYou could just as easily say, "Gays bring problems on themselves by choosing to suck dick." In fact, that's basically the Catholic Church's position. Are you a convert to Roman Popery now?

Gays are born gay, but they're not born with a **** in their mouths. I was born with a brain chemistry that goes really well with weed, but I wasn't born with a joint in my mouth. There's no reason to rationalize the government doing anything to either group, and there's no reason to diminish the suffering of the hundreds of thousands in prison, right now, for non-violent drug offenses.

Is the government forcing them to kill themselves?Originally posted by 100% Wolf View PostDo you think there are more gay teenagers committing suicide because society hates homosexuality or more people committing suicide because they're not allowed to smoke pot?John Brown did nothing wrong.

So it's okay to imprison hundreds of thousands of people because their drug use is recreational? You realize that that really shouldn't make any difference right?Originally posted by 100% Wolf View PostBeing gay affects relationships with other people and romantic love is an important part of life. I don't think it's okay to jail people for marijuana usage. Why do you keep erecting this strawman?Originally posted by Felch View PostSo it's okay to imprison hundreds of thousands of people because their drug use is recreational? You realize that that really shouldn't make any difference right?

No. Society simply bullies them to the point where they want to end it all by killing themselves. Why shouldn't someone take the status of gay people very seriously under such circumstances?Originally posted by Felch View PostIs the government forcing them to kill themselves?

It's a question of priorities. If wedding cakes matter more to you than hundreds of thousands of people in prison, it shows me that you lack perspective.Originally posted by 100% Wolf View PostI don't think it's okay to jail people for marijuana usage. Why do you keep erecting this strawman?

Because your solution doesn't seem directed at the problem. What does high school bullying have to do with wedding cakes? Unless you want to take a holistic approach, which would essentially turn America into a police state where nobody is allowed to say anything mean to anybody else ever.Originally posted by 100% Wolf View PostNo. Society simply bullies them to the point where they want to end it all by killing themselves. What do segregated restaurants have to do with people thinking blacks are inferior? Do you think the practice of segregation encouraged racism at all?

 Am I missing something here.
 Smoking pot is illegal.
 Being gay is not.

That's a big difference in my book.
We can discuss the merits of pot being illegal (which I agree it shouldn't be) but comparing the two when one is legal and the other isn't just makes no sense.

What does school bullying and wedding cakes have in common? They can both be used to makes gays feel like second class citizens.

At least pot smokers are choosing to break the law. Unless you include never enforced sodomy laws, gay are not choosing to break the law. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I thought sex was supposed to be a recreational activity. Are you arguing that it should be elevated to something you do because you care about the other person?Being gay affects relationships with other people and romantic love is an important part of life. Personally, I don't hit on the checkout dude at HEB. Again, I don't see why it's their business. Or the business of anyone whom I do business with. I have never once been asked by people I shop with if I'm gay or straight.Small town ... if you need more than that to understand why a person would be forced to hide something they don't want everyone to know ... words aren't going to help.

Isn't that your argument?Obviously there will be differences between communities. Some are very friendly. Some are already not so friendly to ethnic minorities and gays. Pretending all small towns everywhere are the same is ridiculous.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

The fact that it's illegal is the problem. Since it's harmless, just like homosexuality, it should be legal. Because it is illegal, pot smokers have a more compelling problem than homosexuals. Homosexuals are irritated by trifling episodes of dickery. Hundreds of thousands of pot heads are arrested every year. The injustice has no place in a free society.Originally posted by rah View PostAm I missing something here.

Remember that homosexuality was technically illegal for quite a while. Laws don't define what's right and wrong, they just establish penalties for specific acts.

Furthermore, cakes and bullying have nothing to do with citizenship. Second class citizens are people treated differently by the government, not just targets for bullying.John Brown did nothing wrong.

Not according to rah. He believes you should always follow the law and that the law itself is always right. He's no goose stepping moron, nosiree.Laws don't define what's right and wrongScouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.
