For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

This would surprise me precisely none at all.

                      • Your arguments are all flawed:
                        1) Stop mixing up the benefits of insurance with the benefits of single payer
Example: One can get better pricing for commonly used drugs like penicillin or statins by buying in bulk. As an individual, this is not practical. However, a large single payer (like an insurance company or the government) can do this and pass the savings on to its individual participants
                        2) Stop cherry picking risk by looking at outcomes after the fact
Example: The argument about how regular drugs like statins should not be insured is based upon looking at an individual after high blood pressure has already been diagnosed. The vast majority of people start with a clean slate and do not have high blood pressure. Only a certain percentage of them will develop high blood pressure. Since this percentage is less than 100%, it does make sense to mitigate the risk.

I'm trying to understand the argument you are making, because it appears incoherent in light of the way the real world operates.

If there were a pill that would ward off hbp and it were relatively cheap (cheaper to supply for those who would not get hbp than to pay for treatment for those who do) would it make sense to cover it through insurance for everybody? Now if there were insurers who had an ideological reason to not cover it, would it make sense to mandate it be covered?

                              • I mean, ****, what is more expensive: covering birth control, or covering all the medical costs of pregnancy and birth?
People give birth as often as they use contraception?
