I can't believe I'm doing this, but... to be fair, when someone challenges you on your idea of a faith, that person can't turn around and saying my faith is my own business. Rah was trying to have it both ways.

He's right in the sense that the Catholic Church is basically a monarchy. He doesn't particularly have proof though in the sense of Catholics favor secular monarchy or secular republicanism, though. However, in various conflicts around the world, it did seem the Catholics tended to back pro-Catholic monarchs/dictators over republicanism (ie, Spain), though that makes Catholicism seem bad rather than good.

I'll see what I can dig up. Worldwide I would suspect this to be the case, among Catholics faithful to the magisterium.

Spain and Austria are two examples where the Catholic church backed and supported Catholic monarchy. Portugal another. England under the Plantagenets. France under the Capetians. Poland. Yes, of course, there would be little support by a Catholic towards a 'non Catholic' monarchy. Significant proportions of the present Catholic population lives in areas colonized by Spain, Portugal and France.

I was a bit surprised when I had a Catholic friend and roommate from Portugal express support for the monarchy as a reason why Canada was better than the US. He was also a mathematician. Good times were had by all.

Criticisms of the Church are warranted but asking the question, "what doctrines do you agree with" is not?

          • Prove that MOST PRESENT Catholics are monarchist.... I really don't care about how Catholics felt back in the day when Monarchies were the primary form of government across Europe. Times change... and so do people's attitudes. You claimed that MOST Catholics are monarchist... NOW PROVE IT.

Not really. At any time he likes Ben could make the decision to say his own faith is his own private business. Instead he thrusts it into every discussion. Ben has illustrated quite clearly he has no interest in discussing faith with Rah in an honest and open manner, he just wants to insult and attack him so he can feel superior about his own extremist beliefs. **** him.

There's substantial evidence for the support of the Church in monarchies like Spain and Austria and away from republics like France. There are good historical reasons for this too, given the treatment of the Catholic faith in republican France. And in America too - significant opposition to the persecution of Catholicism here in America. Catholicism's highest percent of the population in the US is right now, and has been as low as 5 percent.

Catholics haven't fared well under republican government.

I believe I specifically said that I choose not to because it was Ben.
If a person that I respected asked that question I would be more likely to answer but maybe not. Like I said, it's personal to me.

I don't wish to answer you because whatever I say you'll do your normal twisting and claim it's proof that I'm not actually a Catholic. You have claimed that I wasn't really a Catholic on numerous occasions, and I have nothing to prove to you and refuse to play your game.

This coming from the same man who refuses to disclose his own educational credentials but attacks the credentials of others. Imran, it's no surprise that he would agree with rah here.

You publicly challenge someone else's faith, your own faith is up on the table for discussion. And, no, I don't think it matters that Ben will twist things - its a perfectly valid thing to push for. Why is Ben's Catholicism not proper? What is proper Catholicism? What is rah's Catholicism?

Fair enough. This also makes your future criticism towards the Catholic church hollow, since you believe faith should be a private affair and deserving of respect.

                            • I would like to say that Europeans are generally more accepting of Constitutional Monarchy than non-Europeans. I'm not sure if that's necessarily a Catholic thing. After all, the British, Swedes, Danes, etc. all have their monarchies.

Given what's going on with the little sisters of the poor and Obamacare - I would agree that a majority of Catholics presently oppose Obama. So yes, they would support a regime change. I'm also not seeing a substantive difference between the Queen in Canada and Obama in America, except that the Queen interferes less and has more respect for the constitution. There are examples where Obama has done things even George III didn't do - such as unilaterally declare war - revise laws passed by congress and their application and enforcement without consulting congress.

These are not the actions of someone who regards the constitutionality of the republic as important.
