    • I don't wish to answer you because whatever I say you'll do your normal twisting and claim it's proof that I'm not actually a Catholic. You have claimed that I wasn't really a Catholic on numerous occasions, and I have nothing to prove to you and refuse to play your game.
If a person that I respected asked that question I would be more likely to answer but maybe not. Like I said, it's personal to me. I'm not a convert like you were, I was born and raised one. 8 years of Catholic School many years as an alter boy. My perspective is completely different then yours, and very personal. And you're just the type of hyper extreme Catholic who uses religion to be intolerant which I despise and avoid wherever possible.

And actions are a good part of those things that help prepare the world for Christ. Actions help bring God's love and truth to His Creation; of course actions are done for particular reasons and are usually, in this case, aren't done in private.

        • I don't believe Philip was martyred either. Edit - nope, I'm wrong about that. Just St. John.

I disagree. Almost every charitable act that I have ever done was low key or under the radar. I rarely ever brag about what I did. I just did it. I mentioned a couple of things many years ago on this site and instantly regretted it. It made me question my true motives. Those charitable acts are part of my religious private part.

Low key or under the radar doesn't make it private. And the other person you did it for probably knew you did as well, or at the very least benefited from it and knew they benefited from someone's goodness.

You are confusing something being a "private affair" and something being done in the public realm.

Doctrine is doctrine. If it's in the catechism I can't very well argue against it being orthodoxy.

I've stated before - that I respect that you grew up with it. What I dislike is that you use your heritage as a club to convince people that the Catholic church is in error. "See, I'm the real Catholic and even I don't believe in it! Why should you?"

If it's just that it's your family then fine, I can understand that. Traditions are a big thing.

                • Some of those acts were anonymous so not always, but yes in most cases at least one person knew. To me I consider that level to be private so yes, I may be confusing your definition.

To me public is when people say what they did in hopes of benefiting in some way from the disclosure.

And I've never said I was a real Catholic, if fact usually the opposite saying I'm not a very good one. But YOU DON"T GET TO MAKE THAT CALL.

The vast majority of religious activities are done for no personal benefit of the giver. They are every day loving actions done due to sharing the love that God has given them. Of course, the reason it is done is due to the faith of the individual (and yes, while this may get me in trouble, I do tend to see religious folks who volunteer and give of themselves on a higher level than those who don't belong to a faith tradition - heck, that's my own personal experience as well).

                    • My experiences were much different. A lot of the charitable act I witnessed growing up were done for bragging purposes. A lot trying to prove how holy they were. (this based on how they acted in private)

But having said that, I have a high respect to those that give or act with no expectations of return or glory. (and that church members are sometimes part of that group)

But yeah, still a Catholic. Despite what Ben claims. He doesn't get to judge whether I'm one or not. Only one gets to judge by definition.
I'm not about to judge whether or not you are. But you're wrong on the account of who gets to judge. The Bible is quite clear on that the congregation and fellow believer has an obligation to shepherd each other.
