Again, as a conservative protestant who worked with many Catholics, that's not what I saw either. It was generally, Catholics + Baptists. Catholics + Baptists. Everywhere you went, Catholic plus some brand of low church evangelical. I had a lot of fun working with Catholics.

And I dated a Pentecostal woman (Conservative Protestant) whose mother kept talking about all the horrible stuff the Catholic Church did and how they wouldn't even let the people read the Bible (and similar)!!

Ecumenism basically arose from mainline Protestant denominations (during colonialism) - which tend to be liberal. A lot of conservative Protestants still consider it to be traitorous.

Catholic marriages weren't recognised in England until the 1850s. That's not the fault of Evangelicals. Most of Catholic persecution came from mainstream protestants, especially Episcopalians, Lutherans and Presbyterians.

Gee Sherman burned Atlanta in the 1960's? If you think that white men weren't getting acquitted by all white juries in the south in the 1960's you really shouldn't be teaching history.

He doesn't adhere to any consistent philosophical principles, just whatever is convenient for the argument he is currently engaged in, in this case he's attempting to defend the reputation of the South from Yankee slander because he's a wannabe Southerner. Ben is best understood as having factional loyalties such as being Catholic, a wannabe Texan, and loyal to the queen of Britain.
