If I had a statement in my will that said, "please kill my wife when I die," that last request would obviously not be followed.

If I had a statement in my will that said, "euthanize my pets," having a law that says this isn't okay and has them put in a pound for adoption is legitimate, even if it means my wishes aren't followed.

If I had a statement in my will that said, "please set all of my worldly possessions on fire, salt the earth on all of my real estate, then close all of my banks accounts and flush the contents down the toilet" then not following my last wishes would also be totally reasonable.
