The Ghost armor is ALWAYS the best because it has the grapple hook, +movement speed, +100% crit chance on demand, +20 defense, and the invisibilty breaking LOS symmetry. It is totally broken. Archangel can be good on snipers but Ghost's critical hit on demand is hard to pass up.

I'm uusally not. I think they still appear on the lower difficulties, even though IMO they're actually harder than the heavy floaters that appear later. Maybe it's just because I'm always so overpowered by then but chryssalids have always scared me more than sectopods. I've never lost anyone to sectopods.

Oh God, the sectopod's delayed area-of-effect rocket attack... that seriously ****ed my **** up the first time I saw one."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

I just started another playthrough on Saturday, classic ironman. On month 5 I think (maybe 6), haven't lost anyone, haven't lost any countries, and I have satellites over 12 countries. I'll have satellites over 15 of them at the end of the month. I'm just now assaulting the alien base.
I've had a bunch of really close shaves though. People getting critically wounded and barely avoiding bleeding out, that sort of thing. I almost lost a colonel when I had 8 mutons appear at once at a UFO crash. That was tough.
For the record, the way to survive encounters like that is with smoke grenades. Smoke grenades with dense smoke are amazing. Enemies can't hit you at all if you're behind full cover.Last edited by regexcellent; October 8, 2013, 21:49.

Okay, I should amend that to MOST enemies can't hit you; outsiders have ridiculous aim. I think they have the highest in the game besides ethereals? If ethereals have an aim stat.
Edit: huh, mutons have the same aim. Well I guess it has to do with rookies having a lower defense stat.
Did you try hunkering down?
