They won't unlock on steam either. I know because I finally got all of the interrogations this time around and it wouldn't ****ing give me Edison.

      • No, they're unlocking just fine. Check again, I'm sure you unlocked the achievements for making a MEC or gene modded soldier.

You must have missed an alien.

        • I'm getting Enemy Within achievements just fine. I thought I was missing the seeker or mechtoid but you can't stun those.

          I have:
          - Sectoid
          - Sectoid Commander
          - Thin Man
          - Floater
          - Heavy Floater
          - Muton
          - Muton Elite
          - Berserker
          - Ethereal

I don't think that list is missing any. The remaining aliens are:
          - Cyberdisk
          - Drone
          - Mechtoid
          - Seeker
          - Sectopod

None of which can be captured.

Doesn't work with Seekers in my experience so far.

If you pop a Seeker nest, keep your guys bunched together. That way when they go after one, you've got a few chances to take it down.

              • Seekers are more dangerous as a threat than they are when they actually attack you, because you have to run around all bunched up like when you could be spreading out more. Once they attack it's two shots boom boom and they die.

Doesnt work if your overwatched guys cant hit the broadside of a barn. But usually 2 guys on overwatch is enough to take only 2 damage after they pop.

                  • Battle scanners and bioelectric skin. With either of those they just become clay pigeons to shoot.

                    • Holy ****ing ****snacks.

Finally got past that first new council mission, finally managed to get Zhang to bring some serious rocket pain, things are going along okay (although I don't really have any good Assault guys), and then... that other new council mission.

                      In the fishing village.

                      JESUS CHRIST.

My most decorated soldier, a Captain medic with absolute perfect aim--dead. The only ****ing assault I do have--dead. My main backup heavy--dead. My only sniper, Zhang both just make it out, and my tertiary heavy somehow makes it out after sending the signal.

                      Wow.

Bravo, Firaxis. That mission was ****ing SEXY.

                      • Yeah that was a good ****ing mission. Everyone I had made it out of it though. The key is fire and maneuver, bounding out of contact. You have to keep moving every turn or they'll overrun you, and you have to keep shooting every turn to keep them at arm's length.

That mission solidified in my mind that the 1 heavy, 2 supports, 2 assaults, 1 sniper squad makeup is the ideal one. I have two men with suppression, two with run and gun, two sets of smoke grenades, two high DPS dues, etc. That makes it easy to split into two groups, one dashing and the other shooting.

edit: for the record this was on classic.

                        • I've been running two MECs, two snipers, an assault, and a support. That group is chewing through everything on classic. The only problem on the fishing village mission was that they were slow to move as a group, but I ended up getting everyone out because one of the snipers was in position to cover the end of the mission without moving much.

I like the dual-capture exalt missions. The other exalt mission type is a cakewalk if you give your covert operative mimetic skin.

                          • I don't like MECs because I can't make them stealthy. So I just either don't use them, or use them for the grenade launcher ability which is pretty handy. But spending that much meld/money on a 2-shot grenade launcher just isn't worth it so I skip them entirely and make a beeline to put mimetic skin on everyone.

In the squad lineup you listed only one of your men can use suppression, and that's if you skip revive I think. So again that would be a no-go. I use suppression whenever I can't kill all of the enemies on one turn. Suppression ****ing owns and you should ALWAYS take it on any non-medic supports and all of your heavies.

                            • The flamethrower and rocket punch make the early game much easier. The particle cannon shreds the endgame. Yeah, they're expensive, but they take quite a beating before they have to go to the infirmary and I'd rather spend the money on units I can take on most of my missions than spread it across a group that gets injured.

My assault and support are stealthy, with them spotting it's easy to keep everyone else out of trouble. Half the time my assault only decloaks once or twice a mission to stun someone and steal their gun.

                              • MEC troopers have unimpressive stat gain and slow promotions so unless you turn a colonel sniper into a MEC I don't see the inherent low accuracy of MECs yielding much from their primary weapon.

By the end of the game I want everyone in my squad to be able to double move with impunity, surround a bunch of enemies without them even knowing I'm there, and then bushwhacking them in one turn after surrounding them. Having to leave out one of my soldiers (an expensive one at that) is not acceptable.
