    • Classic Ironman was the most challenging time I ever had with a video game. I never finished/won.

You'll get there. It took me about 40 tries before i did it, half were games that went down in flames, the other half i restarted upon suffering a casualty early in the game. I wanted perfection but settled for less.

That's before Ethereals appear. I'm sitting with my first game ever's last save running the clock around with the gollop chamber constructed waiting for one of those sectoid commanders to show up on the hyperwave relay.

          • Apparently, you can now award your soldiers medals for their performance and heroism on the battlefield. These medals provide small stat buffs to their recipients, and when a soldier dies his medals are shown in the memorial. They're not awarded automatically, you choose who gets them, and such.

Felt like **** after sacrificing a man to shut down the bomb in a council mission? Now you'll feel even worse, as the memorial shows you just how much he has sacrificed for you.

              • This is pretty concerning. Looks like they didn't balance all the new powers (mechs/medals/gene mods/etc) well

                • The gene mods seem reasonably balanced but the MEC troopers look like they come out too early and are way too powerful. I was expectin EXALT to be more dangerous than the aliens due to prolific explosives but that's apparently not true.

My solution for the power creep will be to just not use MEC troopers. I like the idea proposed in that video of making some kind of cash or meld penalty for healing MEC troopers.

                  • I'm sure they've already seen the video and are working on a fix. They just got a bit carried away with the mechs being all shiny...

                    • I just got wiped on the third Slingshot mission. Is it possible to attempt it without beam weapons? Can I delay doing the mission indefinitely?

                      • They also seem to have patched the aliens to patrol more since launch, is that right? Maybe just my perception.

                        • I think you can delay doing the battleship indefinitely. You have to do the first one when it shows up. Don't know about the second. The second one is the hardest because of the time factor.

Aliens patrolling more might be a side-effect of the patch that removes the teleporting glitch.

                            Possible, yes. Advisable, no.

I believe so. Just like the second mission, you'll get the option intermittently, you'll get the option again if you click "NOT NOW".

It is also often your first Muton encounter, plus you have to deal with a veritable swarm of eagle-eyed thin men and their poison attacks.

                              • Oh, ok, good. I didn't know about Slingshot and just got it, but after barely getting through the second mission I really didn't want to take on a battleship with a four man squad and basic weapons/armor.
