The whole Romney campaign revolved around his perceived 'electability'. Not only did he fail to defeat Obama, his massive negative coattails hurt downballot senate races. Especially in North freakin' Dakota. Ugh. Terrible candidate.

I personally know evangelicals who summed up the race as between a "Muslim and a Mormon".

(Here's a hint: none of them. The electorate in 2012 was slightly different than the one in 2012. Demographics changed enough that with an election that close it made the difference.)

Demographics don't explain that Romney had fewer net voters than McCain in 2008. Unless moderate, 'electable' Romney, somehow failed to attract no new GOP voters whatsoever.

Again, I had solid numbers, from, January, February of last year. They proved exactly right in October. Nothing changed in 8 months.

Yes, my preferred alternative was Cain and then Santorum after he won Iowa. Santorum ended up piling as many states in 2012 as Romney did in 2008.

In the 1996 Congressional elections after the shutdown the GOP kept the majority in the House (they lost 3 seats) and gained seats (gain of two) in the Senate.

None of this changes the point about holding on by his dick hairs. Whether he campaigned well is irrelevant. The point is that he was re-elected by the smallest margin in a long long time. Just imagine if details about Benghazi had come out sooner, or if we had heard about the NSA leaking just a few months earlier. He would have been completely toast. Romney's loss did not represent the decline of the Republican party. It wasn't the end of the Democratic party when in 1984, Walter Mondale lost in a huge ****ing landslide, and the Democrats were left with control of the House of Representatives while Republicans held the Senate and White House.
