Yes, somebody dying who wants to live is worse than somebody dying who wants to die. I'm pretty sure that even a child can understand this.

I know little of healthcare, and only got halfway through the first page before growing bored and skimming the rest. His point about rich people's healthcare trickling down over time like car safety features (does he mention any examples of this actually happening later in the article?) sort of reminds me of how porn supposedly boosts the growth of new technologies; whenever a new communication method surfaces, the dildo brigade rushes in to find ways people can use it to whack off, thereby encouraging the growth of new media.

Which brings me to my question: could we somehow get pornographers working on our healthcare problem? They could start with STDs and stuff, and I imagine they'd be less sanctimonious about it than this dude.

He does offer a couple examples, but the premise is so fundamentally flawed, it doesn't really matter. BTW, that thing about porn sites being the cutting edge of web technology (especially spyware, but I digress) stopped being true several years ago, probably more.

The idea behind that, uh, meme was that porn boosts ALL new media; the desire for discreet, high-def smut provided early adopters for VHS, DVDs, the internet et cetera. Or so I hear.

The fundamental problem liberals have with understanding health care is that while they're just barely comfortable with the idea of some people having more money than others (after all otherwise we'd be communist!) they aren't okay with some people actually being wealthier, because they don't realize that actually having more access to stuff like health care and education and any kind of good or service is literally what it means to be wealthy, and not having access to those things is literally what it means to be poor. So they're sorta kinda communist without realizing it.

                  Argument ad hominem.

Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Most jurisdictions don't have a "but he wanted me to kill him" clause to justify murder. Maybe we should ask the victim to confirm. Oh wait. Sorry. That can't happen.

Side air bags. Non existent in the 70s, provided for the top end cars in 1981, and generally trickling down to the plebians. Most consumer goods work this way - you sell to the rich and daring and then work out the kinks for the stuff that's popular with the hoi polloi.

In a health care standpoint - drug development would work this way.

Giving orphans food to eat is kinda communist too. So are you a communist, or do you want orphans to starve?

You will be dead someday. Does that mean you can't give consent to anything?

When I can be consulted to confirm that yes, I did in fact give consent? Absolutely. Consent to kill me? Can't see how that one could work out terrible for me. Yeah, I believe you. I'm sure he 'wanted' to die. Uh huh.
