    • You should really pay more attention to me. You probably wouldn't be such a dumb**** if you actually engaged with intelligent people you don't agree with.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.

      • That cartoon is a very accurate interpretation of events.

The thing is Drake, you argue against it but don't provide any proof or sources... just your superior "intelligence".

        • Do I really need to prove that Ted Cruz won his election, or that the GOP controls the House? (sigh) Here you go...

          • Oh, so you are going to pretend to be BK now?

            That's fine.

Nope, each election shows fewer and fewer Hispanics willing to vote R. Asians? Asians are also turning against Republicans in record numbers. Blacks? HA! Republicans are lucky if they get 2% of the black vote. Gays? Rs have made it completely clear they hate gays. Muslims? Don't make me laugh. Jews? Nope, they clearly understand how Evangelicals trying to institutionalize Christianity is bad for them. All Republicans do well with is whites and specifically highly religious evangelical whites and whites with incomes over $150,000 per year.

Sorry, but that's not enough to win elections. Romney got the highest percentage of the white vote of any Republican Presidential candidate in history (in the high 60% range) but he still lost. Just appealing to older whites won't cut it outside of rigged congressional districts yet Republicans are completely unwilling to moderate their positions to appeal to virtually any other group and that's what's killing them.
And I'm saying that as usual you're totally wrong. The Republican Party today is in a stronger position than it was in 1990, and a stronger position than it was in 1980. Young people get older, immigrants lose their identity as immigrants over time, there is no telling what will happen with hispanics as a whole over time, and more Jews voted for Mitt Romney than have ever voted for a Republican since Ronald Reagan. If gay marriage becomes a closed issue like liberals think it will then the Democrats lose a significant advantage among that fairly small segment of the population that they had.

Incidentally, the evangelicals voting for Republicans led to the greatest increase in their coalition in the party's history. Christians are obviously a huge huge huge segment of the population and a very important demographic which isn't decreasing. Democrats continue to lose lots of ground among whites which is putting them at more and more of a disadvantage in the Midwest and Mountain West. Of those the latter is increasing in population, while California's growth is beginning to stagnate and the Northeast is hemorrhaging people. The fastest growing region in the country is the South, including the Southeast, which is overwhelmingly Republican. Republicans are also gaining tons of ground among men, who will always be about 50% of the population.

And to any extent that the Republicans are becoming regional, the Democrats are too.

All you ever do is yell about dumb strawmen so maybe don't throw any rocks from inside that big glass house.

                  • And finally, this shutdown isn't going to cost the Republicans either house of Congress. On top of that the Democrats are at a disadvantage in Senate in the 2014 election, and are guaranteed to lose several seats, such as Alaska and North Dakota.

                    • Actually, I "yell" about how you are wrong. But that's okay. One day you might get curious and look up "straw man"... perhaps even understand what the term means too!

But I won't hold my breath.

The administration would be more willing to negotiate if that were the case.

That's just false equivalency; not to mention mind bogglingly stupid.
And now we know the problem with this country. On one side you have Oerdin, unable to see that his party might be wrong about something. On the other side you have Reg, unable to see his party might be wrong about something ... it's always the other side's fault that they won't unilatterally give in to your side's demands ...

Equating passing a budget to terrorism is stupid, unless the sticking points on passing the budget happen to be funding terrorist operations. The sticking points here are the debt ceiling and obamacare for the most part. Neither of which is actually terrorism ... contrary to what the parties would have you believe.
