To be honest, more blame should fall on Cantor. Boehner would likely want a clean CR, but he's scared to death that if he gives an inch, Cantor will knife him in the back and take the Speakership. And it isn't like Cantor is assuring Boehner that won't happen. I'm sure Cantor is loving this.

Doesn't matter the site; it's a fact that the GOP Arizona governor is crying about the federal government shutdown's effect on the Grand Canyon Park, and all related tourism businesses.

Frankly the Grand Canyon operations ought to be privatized. And instead of having some bull**** lottery rules about who can go down when and how, there would be less environmental impact, more sales, less expense, and more accessibility for disabled people if they just built a ****ing tram line to the bottom. The way the Grand Canyon is managed is absolutely horrific and morally outrageous. They encourage people not to seek life-saving medical attention because rescue is inconvenient, because of the fact that they have stupid rules about how you can get down in the first place.

It's very obvious that the reason the Feds are making a big deal about ensuring federal lands are closed is because they're the only thing many people who aren't federal workers have to deal with on a day to day basis. It's the only way they can make people actually notice the shutdown. This just begs the question of why the federal government administrates all this land in the first place. There's no compelling reason to give it to the feds instead of states or private enterprises.

The feds really only do two things that involve significant amounts of money: running the military and transfer payments. Both of those have continued.
