The same country (although not exactly the same regime) invaded East Timor and killed Roman Catholics (some of whom were left of centre) in one of the 20th Century's more unreported genocides. They had good coverage on this documentary on NPR along with how the old right wing para-militaries feel absolutely no need to hide what they did at all, that the old dictatorship even made the commemoration of their mass murdering part of a national holiday, and (sadly in my mind) how they felt perfectly at ease telling an American camera man all about it on film because at the time American CIA agents were neck deep in all of it including providing the paramilitaries with kill lists of suspected communist sympathizers.

Those kill lists weren't even just a few names either and instead they had tens of thousands of names on them. Basically anyone who protested against the dictatorship, wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper which the CIA didn't like, student activitists, or anyone they didn't like for any reason at all.

He's also being disingenuous, since the alleged targeting of Roman Catholics can easily be explained by both the Nazis and Soviet forces wanting to eradicate any informed opposition to their rule in Poland- a mainly Roman Catholic country, populated mainly by Slavs. Slavs who were of course considered Untermenschen by the Nazis... Guides, Scouts, teachers, professors, members of the army and the Polish government- all were victims, and not simply because they were Roman Catholics.

I watched about half of the movie, quit at the halfway mark because it was both creepy and repetitive. This is how a typical 20 minute segment would go: start out with Anwar Congo and his buddies extorting the local populace (variations of "give me some money or else I'll stab you") and/or being praised by the current Indonesian leadership, then cut to Congo describing how he used to torture and murder people, then cut to Congo and his buddies acting out some torturing/murdering, repeat. What made this particularly creepy was the third part, because the filmmakers basically just handed Congo a box of props and said "do whatever you want and we'll film it," so for example Congo would dress up as a Chicago Prohibition gangster and show how he'd use a wire to strangle people. The part where I turned it off was when Congo and his buddies dressed up as Wild West cowboys, except for the obese friend who got to dress up as a Wild West showgirl so everybody else could tie him to some railroad tracks and pretend-rape him.
