Or you could try teaching the kids what you think they actually ought to know, but endeavor to make it genuinely interesting. Right now, at least in the district I sub, the common core (whateverTF that is) prescribes a series of stunningly boring lessons apparently concocted by committees of people who have never been children. So, when sixth-grade history covers ancient China, do they mention the gruesome punishments, the foot-binding, the Hsiong Nu depredations, the repeating crossbows? Maybe mention the Romance of the Three Kingdoms? Nope. They hear lots and lots about Shi Huangdi's bureaucracy and public works projects, though. That ****er sure dug him a lot of canals. But even in the rare event that a student actually cares intensely about old Chinese canals, the teacher can't pause a second to go into more detail for that student's benefit since the whole curriculum is ridiculously centralized.

Should witch craft, faith healing, crop circles, chakra, crystal healing, and fortune telling be taught in science classes?

English spelling is grossly inconsistent even for actual English words. I'm not giving the Middle Kingdom one measly vowel of special treatment.

We don't really teach kids based on what they'd find the most interesting - otherwise we'd have sex ed all day.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

lol. Of course BK is enjoying his fantasy. You could never get a class full of students to think that's interesting, because it just isn't.
Oh, no wait. They loved the Jeopardy style end of the year test. With me as the host. That was fun.
Sure, some of the classes are not all that interesting. It's hard to teach the trinity in an interesting fashion. I am going to see what I can do next year to work on that one to make it better. It was my least liked class.
I encourage the students to give me feedback.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

You don't seem like a very good history teacher.
So what I do is I start taking away things in the classroom.
What would the world be like in 500? How different is the world then from the world now? Was there an America back then?Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

The only real problem with History is that BFB isn't teaching it. Properly treated, it's a very interesting subject.
EDIT: whoops, I quoted the wrong part of that post. Oh, well.Last edited by Elok; June 6, 2013, 14:23.
