They could have escaped to Canada 2 days ago. Maybe they found the person in the pic and couldn't find any evidence, maybe the person in the pic is nowhere to be found.

It's the difference between an investigation and a public media outlet. The FBI absolutely should have investigated these two - and anyone else with a bag and possibly then not a bag, white brown or purple - but when it starts becoming a public effort, it's a little more complicated, since even if the redditors were behaving themselves and just trying to give the FBI leads, certainly plenty of people might read their work and jump to conclusions and/or take inappropriate actions based on them.
