What Guy said. You talk as if we live in a world without law and order.

Your delusions and fear don't detract from the accuracy of the sentiment that a gun can be a perfectly valid form of self and home defense.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

      • Actually, I would say that the person who wants to own a gun is the one living in fear.

Are you telling me Red Dead Redemption was not historically accurate? LIAR. LIAR.

Same with the person who gets a car that has a lot of safety features.

Or someone who runs away from Polymeets because he doesn't know how to talk to people except on the Internet.

(that last bit was about you)
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

I did hang out with some of you guys one time. And thanks for the parentheses remark - I gathered that without it.

What does a family who has a mentally unstable, erratic teenager owning one or two guns in the house have to do with safety?

You made a sweeping statement and now are trying to walk it back.

I am in complete agreement that Adam lanza shouldn't have had access to firearms. If he was so ****ing crazy his mother was getting ready to get him commited, then she should have either kept them out of the house or otherwise had them secured to the state's satisfaction so long as she shared a domicile with him. If she was still alive any DA that was halfway decent should be able to figure out a way to bring Criminal negligence charges against her.

I am completely in favor for criminal penalties in instances where a minor in your custody gets ahold of your firearms unsupervised, or "crazy ****ing person in your domicile gets ahold of them".

This has **** all to do with your statement, though. And honestly, some guy who can't deal with people outside the Internet for longer than 10 minutes should be careful about making statements about "living in fear".

We've had this discussion before. Illegal gun manufacturing is big business in Uttar Pradesh. If you want to make your own sub-machine gun, guides are available on Amazon.

I still don't get what you're talking about, here.

Yeah you do, you're just pretending that you don't for the benefit of those on the OT that weren't at that polymeet.

It's endlessly amusing how when it comes to guns, you pro gun rights folks seem so ready to point to examples from second and third world countries. Oh by what about the slums of India! Oh but what about the violence in Somalia or Honduras! You folks must have such a high regard for your own country to look for comparisons in some of the ****tiest spots on the planet instead of say.. the other rich first world countries where your comparisons might have some actual point.

The biggest and most consistent differences between the US and other 1st World countries isn't gun laws(it could be argued it's harder to get ahold of firearms legally in some US States than many European countries and Canada), it's the social mobility problems, lack of social safety net, and unending war on drugs that treats recreational potsmokers as violent criminals.

Change 'many European countries' to 'some European countries' and I'd probably actually agree with you. The gun thing just gets me riled because given the other problems, this insistence on fighting any and all forms of gun control is just stupid. We all know guns arent going anywhere in America, but when you have the NRA pushing a strong campaign to proliferate silencers (save kids hearing!) and objecting to even the most timid forms of regulation then we're orbiting parody and heading straight toward the WTF event horizon.

                              • Silencers are totally unrestricted in a number of countries. They aren't very useful to criminals because they don't actually make the gun all that quiet; just quiet enough that it won't damage your hearing and you can hear it only about 2-3 hundred yards away, say, instead of a mile off. They're also big and heavy and not very concealable. In New Zealand and in Finland you can buy them right off the shelf. They're also really easy to make.

I have a friend who puts baby bottle nipples on the end of his .22s so that they don't bother the neighbors.
