    • Lonestar: Hollow points don't make sense to use for training purposes due to expense.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

      • I don't think they are that much more expensive, are they? It might be easier than trying to keep track of two kinds of bullets at once, and ensures you never accidentally shoot training bullets during a non-training situation.

          Bulllll****.

At the bulk we're buying, the cost difference between HP and ball is marginal, at best. Yeah, if I go down to Wally World and want to buy a 50 rd box of 9mm; it'll cost me $3 more for HP rather than ball. Not so for Uncle Sugar. As it is, if you're LE(or not...), it makes sense to have your training rounds be as ballistic-ally similar to your duty ammo as possible.

In fact, the biggest argument against HP as training ammo isn't the cost, it's that many indoor shooting ranges don't have the ventilation quite up to snuff and so there's worries about lead particles in the air.

Take a look at the price comparisons of re-manufactured 9mm ammo. HP is more expensive, but not hugely so..at least if you're a government agency.

            • As you describe it, this sounds like a good example of waste when people talk of waste, fraud and abuse inflating the cost of government.

              • Training with the same equipment you use is waste?

                • Spending money on using hollow points for training purposes is wasteful, yes.

                  • I really disagree.

What you train with should be as similar to what you use in the field as possible.

                    • Honestly, the whole buying-from-minorities thing should be the bit that really pisses you off, DD.

Howabout from vets? Because they enjoy the same +10 Barter skill that Minorities/women do when bidding.

                          Oh, that's completely ridiculous too.

Hollow points aren't that much more expensive and this assumes the government cares anyway.

As for the whole train how you fight thing, the big thing to consider with hollow points is that they don't feed as well as FMJ or RN in automatics. So it's useful to have practice in that.

It's like that with Government IT. I don't work for a major defense contractor. I'm employee #50 for a small, woman-owned business. If, say, Northrup bids on a IT contract they have to prove that approximately half of the personnel on the contract will go to small businesses that are minority/vet/woman/disabled own.
This is why all the contractors at the federal reserve board were black, then.
