At will employment works. On the whole, companies really don't go around terminating workers for sport because the hiring and training process is time consuming and expensive. And you don't have to carry a dead-weight body who learns to milk the system for months or years before you can get sufficient documentation to allow termination.

    • As an employee you also learn who to trust and who not to. I worked for some ethically challenged companies and was laid off for no reason other than presumably to make the Directors quarterly numbers. When they came back to me later and begged me to come back, I told them to screw off accordingly and found a better higher paying job in the interim.

Ah yes, won't someone think of the poor employers who can exploit the workers.

        • "exploiting workers" is a nonsense concept, as long as you are free to quit your job.

Employers reap what they sew, at least that was the case for me.

It's a nonsense concept to you because you don't know what it's like to have marginal skills or be ignorant of your rights as a worker. You're such a privileged douche-bag, you just don't know it.

Then, as long as people are free to quit your job, what's your problem about workers having to quit jobs to find another job, if they don't want to pay any union dues?

HC doesn't like unions. Thats why.

Having marginal skills is the issue. You need to change that. More people enterring into the workplace presumably alows more marketable skills to be developed. Anything hindering that is a net negative to longer term career success.

                          • How do you get marketable skills if you don't get hired because you don't have previous experience?

How do you get marketable skills if you can't afford college, and don't want to pile up student loan debt?

More to do with Whistleblowing aspect: At Will employment is obviously reasonable in multiple circumstances but to be fired (and potentially ****listed) for informing on illegal practices is counter productive for society. I understand that At Will doctrine varies between states, but still...

Why should they quit their job? Their contract of employment is with the employer not some third party union. The union doesn't hold the job strings thats the employer.
