Yeah, management loves it when workers try to unionize...

And you think the pittance paid in union dues per paycheck is too onerous? Compared to what gains non-union workers get in wages and benefits?

There are benefits for management. I'm sure that most bosses would prefer not to have unions in their workplace, but you're awfully unfair to unions if you don't think that they bring a higher level of professionalism to the workplace.

I don't know. However, I feel that is up for the worker to decide if the benefit he gets from union membership is worth the dues paid and I don't see where you or anyone else get the right to decide for him or her.

Exactly. Here in America we regard freedom as a worthwhile end in itself.

Back to my repeated points that non-union workers who prefer lower wages and less benefits. They DO have choices.

              • You're right, MrFun. Thanks to the brave folks in the Michigan legislature, workers in that state DO have a choice whether or not they join a union.

You are completely free to move to a state that is pro-gay marriage, Fun.

So precisely how many other areas do you advocate that people be given a specific benefit, then choose after the fact if, whether, and how much they want to pay for that benefit?

How would you feel if you were in a union, and the elected leadership happened to be bigots who paid money to Focus on the Family? Would you say that your improved wages made the whole thing okay, or would you be offended that money was being taken from your paycheck and sent to a political organization that you disagreed with?

Can't you just exclude non-union members from the CBA? Then they won't be receiving the benefit.

They had that choice before this new anti-worker law.

I would feel offended, and likely quit that job, as it is my choice to do so.

This is probably his only one.

Didn't we cover the freeloader part earlier? I could have sworn that unions were under no obligation to represent non-union members.
