Given that all of my money is spent in America, on American goods and businesses, for which sales tax is collected, I'm not sure what the problem is. Plenty of folks send money out of the American economy. If anything, I bring money from Canada to here through my Canadian clients (which is why I file CDN taxes).

Not that simple. I have to file for Canadian Taxes and for American taxes. Unlike Asher, I pay both of mine. I choose not to claim my withholding in my Federal American taxes, which is rather substantial. It works out that I pay about 20 percent when both are combined, which is still less than I would be paying up in Canada due to not having to pay BC taxes.

That makes no sense at all. If that's how you actually have to do it, then our tax system is even more dumb than I thought.

Notice I didn't quote that part. I understand the Christian opposition to contraceptives, and I also understand why Christians who oppose contraceptives all volunteer to be foster parents.

The reason the answer to both is 'no, you cannot' is that is how it works in a society - you give up the right to make every decision solely your own. Since not everyone agrees 100% of the time, sometimes the government will do things you don't agree with, and that's okay. You can lobby to change things, and make your arguments to the others in the society, but if they decide something you don't agree with, you live with it. You don't get to opt out of the parts you don't agree with. If you object so strongly to this that you would rather not be part of the society at all, then that's your right - head to Ireland, then.
