Without minimum wage, we would see a skyrocketing number of workers go onto welfare.
Actually, we'd see people come off of welfare as they would actually have a job.

I agree it should be capped as there is no reason to give tax breaks to people buying multi million dollar homes but, yes, the deduction helps most middle class families so it should remain in some form. Kill or cap the charitable contribution as that won't make people homeless while removing the mortgage interest deduction very well could push some people over the edge. I would also like to see the tens if not hundreds of billions in corporate welfare disappear. They can justify their continued existence based on market demand or die.

Why do you insist on keeping the mortgage deduction again?

You don't get it. There are WORKING poor who still have to rely on welfare in order to live. A job does not necessarily get a person off of welfare.

Why would you consider this deduction to be a better way to help middle class families than just lowering their tax rates?

As one of those working poor - those on welfare make more than I do in a year. Easily. Can I live on what I make? Sure. So I surmise that one can live quite well on minimum wage.

Minimum wage is supposed to be an entry level job, not a way of life.

So basically you are lying again about how the response to the Depression of 1920 was dealt with cutting government spending. Interestingly enough it seems that perhaps the drop by Wilson was responsible for the Depression - you take away that much spending at once and it is bound to cause a shock to the system.

Holy crap, you must have a super crappy job if you are making less than folks on welfare make (which isn't that much at all).

Folks on welfare make more than anybody under 30k a year before taxes.

Spending went massively up in 1918, and 1919. Then it dropped substantially, the recession ended by 1922, and government spending was reduced by half. Yep, sure seeing how cutting government spending worked poorly for Coolidge. This is the standard example in the econ textbook, btw Imran.

Gosh, maybe that's why I'm waiting. Isn't that the responsible thing. I suppose I could get married - go on welfare and live off Obama's largesse.
