How about we eliminate the corporate welfare and let the little old lady keep her $1200 per month in social security.

BTW raising the minimum wage is a stupid idea.

I've done so many times in the past. It has always devolved into you repeating your DailyKos talking points, sometimes worded ever so slightly differently, which you then insist makes them fresh and interesting.

Just say this and something about reducing the overall upper marginal rates and you will sound remarkably like Mitt Romney.

Not enough money to solve the problem.

So because eliminating corporate welfare alone won't eliminate the deficit it's not worth doing?

Treating SS and other entitlements as untouchable and holy artifacts until everything else people can think of is dealt with isn't an idea worth considering, yes. Perhaps you could explain the logic in putting off reform in one of the largest drivers of US debt, entitlements?

Why? Would this not get a lot of the working poor off of welfare?

80 percent of all the increase would go to unions with contracts guaranteeing them percentages of the minimum wage.

As costs increase in response to the raise - the working poor actually would lose money as everything they pay for costs more, and their wages are worth less. It's a good deal for unions though.

The federal minimum wage would apply to non-union workers as well as union workers.

Also, you missed my idea to have the newly increased federal minimum wage to be indexed to inflation. Thus, offsetting the increase in costs of living.

And that's the problem. If a Union is guaranteed 3x the minimum wage - they get 3x the increase of the working poor. Thus - most of the working poor don't actually see any of the money. Since union wages are rising much more than their own wages - they stand to lose substantial amounts of money due to inflation.

This is true for any rise in the minimum wage.

Also, you missed my idea to have the newly increased federal minimum wage to be indexed to inflation. Thus, offsetting the increase in costs of living.
You seem to not get that inflation and a raise in the minimum wage are dependent, and not independent variables. Raising the minimum wage will jack up inflation.

Anyways, as asked, are you willing to see cuts in all entitlements not just those that benefit people you hate?

The unions may get a greater increase above and beyond with the increase in minimum wage, but non-union workers will still be far better off with the increased minimum wage.

Also, as I understand it, the way a minimum wage indexed to inflation would work, is that the minimum wage is to be increased along with the rate of inflation.

And I am much more in favor cutting subsidies for the wealthy and preserving welfare system for the poor because the poor are the ones who truly NEED assistance in order to live.

Yay! Middle class spending power is reduced via ensured inflation, until such time as they are caught up in the mandatory minimum wage net. Everyone is equal and lower class.
