Who claimed they wanted the original cast back? The question was whether they'd be back, not that someone hoped they'd be back.

The only ones of the gang who were actually really good actors were Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams. And they're both now way too old.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

If its Episode 7, the original cast would have to feature somehow - as it'd be part of the narrative arc that started from Ep 1. Now Anakin is dead, the only continuity comes from Luke, Leia, and Han & even if its the offspring of Leia & Han, they'd have to be in it at some level.

Esp if Ep7 is about dealing with what is left of the Empire.

Imran's right. It would be weird to watch Episode 6, then watch episode 7 and see a completely different cast for the same characters.

Just to clarify, original cast != original characters. You could easily cast someone else as Old Luke or Old Leia or Old Han without losing anything significant (see: Obi-Wan Kenobi).

The biggest problem with bringing the Thrawn trilogy to the screen is that the whole plot depends on the clone wars being rather different than Lucas said they were. Zahn's version was much cooler, of course, but there'd be awkward moments explaining why we'd never seen an ysalamir before and why everybody was so scared to see clones when they'd just beat down a whole army full of them a few years back.

Or we could just pretend the prequels never happened, Han shot first and Darth Vader turned to the dark side over something other than a nonsensical Freudian complex. I'd be cool with that.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequels seems like a completely different person.

They don't have to take the thrawn trilogy verbatim. They can make it work.

Why bother if you can get the originals? I'm sure Hammill wouldn't turn it down.

They are already on record saying its not the Thrawn story, but something entirely original.

Well, as long as it never has anything like "young jedi knights".

Zahn posted to FB that he doesn't know anything about it, but also that he wouldn't necessarily - it's not his property, unless Disney/Lucasfilm wants his input (all EU is automatically property of Lucasfilm).

I think there will eventually be a Thrawn Trilogy movie trilogy now that Disney has the property. It is popular enough that they can't really pass it up, and they've made it clear they don't care much about forcing continuity from one series to a different one in the Marvel movies. But episode 7/8/9 shouldn't be it, IMO - EU should be EU and canon should be canon, and never the twain shall meet. Otherwise the EU is too complicated (requiring people to avoid ALL conflicts with canon is far too much work given the diversity of people writing in the EU).
