    • Good lord, why would he play Luke Skywalker???

The proper 'old Luke' actor would be John Noble. For Han, you could have Bertie Wooster House Hugh Laurie, perhaps? Then you could have Stephen Fry play something, which would be awesome.

There is this REALLY stupid "joke" in the interwebs that people pretend that movies they didn't like just didn't exist. Like saying something like "I'm so glad they never made an X-Men 3 movie, har har har".

How exactly are we explaining their new accents (even their American accents are "off" when it comes to being Luke & Han)?

          • Nathan Fillion as Han Solo and Karen Gillian as Mara Jade

            • To be honest, you need someone that sounds like the original actor as well (which is why McGregor kinda worked for Obi Wan). Fillion's voice doesn't work for the flat accent that Ford has. To be honest, Karl Urban would be better.

              • Doesn't matter that his voice is different. Chris Pine doesn't sound like William Shatner, yet he did just fine in the Star Trek movie. They look different. They can sound different too. People will get used to it. You're too wrapped up in the idea that this needs to stay totally true to the original actors and characters. They can deviate a bit. It will make a better film if they do.

That being said, I can't see Mara Jade as having a Scottish accent, but then again Karen Gillian is hot.

                • Chris Pine was in a reboot of Star Trek. No one was really comparing him to William Shatner.

It gets too jarring if you stay in the same universe and use actors who look and sound completely different from who they are supposed to portray. There is a reason they picked Ewan McGregor as young Obi-Won, aside from the fact that he's a great actor. It's because he can do a pretty damned good Alec Guinness impersonation.

                  • Imran, it's been almost forty years; it is not going to be jarring to anyone. Nathan Fillion's typecast is basically identical to Harrison Ford's. He would do great. He doesn't have to look and sound like Harrison Ford. No one is going to be able to impersonate an actor as amazing as Harrison Ford. Ewan McGregor certainly didn't come close to really impersonating Alec Guiness, disregarding the whole ****ty dialogue problem.

                    • Fillion's accent doesn't sound flat because he's from Alberta and not Illinois.

Yes it will be. It's like you think no one watched the original trilogy anymore. Like I said, there was a reason Ewan McGregor was chosen and McGregor studied Guiness to replicate his accent and it really was quite striking how close it was.

FWIW, I still think Karl Urban could do a better Han Solo than Nathan Fillion. But it is quite likely that BOTH of them are too young to do an older Han Solo anyways if they go in the direction of a new generation of heros.

                          • Cracked has a whole bunch of articles arguing that the original trilogy was only good because Lucas had limited creative control and the studios were able to override a lot of his bad ideas. His original vision for ANH would have had about thirty minutes of space politics wedged in.

                              • Disney will release a new 'Star Wars' movie every year starting in 2015

Confirming a strategy of aggressive franchise expansion, Disney announced today at CinemaCon that they are planning to release a new Star Wars movie every year, starting with the J.J. Abrams-powered Episode VII in summer 2015. The plan is to release a standalone spinoff the following year — probably one of the projects focusing on Boba Fett or Young Han Solo — and alternate between numerals and spinoffs from there.

Assuming the films are successful, this means the total number of Star Wars films will nearly double by summer 2019. Presumably, Disney is hoping that each of the spinoffs will form their own franchises, much like X-Men and The Avengers.

There’s still no word on who might be working on the non-trilogy spinoffs, which means there’s still hope for the rumored Zack Snyder-Seven Space Samurai spinoff, not to mention the Terrence Malick spinoff about Hutts copulating in a rainforest, which is a rumor I just started.
