    Yes, we can.

Calgary is paying $0 for the ring road.

The Province is footing the bill. Americans are paying for it each time they fill up at the pumps.

    • Oh so now you're just getting pork money from the province! It's like Ketchikan, Alaska with that bridge. You're ****ing over the folks from Edmonton for your ring road, you bastards.

They get their own oil-financed pork projects. Everybody wins, except American consumers.

BTW, the SE portion of the ring road is 25km long with 29 different bridge structures involved.

Pretty impressive for a city that's flat with no geographic features to get in the way.

Again, as I said before they eventually have to do exactly this. It's the direct result of their irresponsible policies.

The current mayor is frequently branded as a "liberal" by many for his spending habits. He's doing things like extending the LRT lines to areas which don't yet have the population to support them but are projected to within the next 20 years. He's doing things like acquiring extra land around intersections for major roads so they can cheaply be upgraded to interchanges as the volume necessitates. He's fast tracking other projects, and putting pressure on the province to complete the SW portion of the ring road. Why do you think he raised the taxes?

He's doing what you are apparently suggesting, but you don't have any idea since you have no ****ing idea what Calgary is up. Add to the fact your constant smarmy comments about how I just don't know enough and it's not my fault...give me a ****ing break. You're a tool.
You're just supporting the case that the Calgary electorate isn't mature and experienced enough to support a mayor who's trying to implement better policy.

Everyone, let's calm down. These sorts of conversations are important; we need a serious discussion of the issues of urban development Calgary faces, even if it involves admitting some tough truths. I'm glad you're contributing your local knowledge to this conversation, and Kuci is contributing his depth of experience. You both have valuable perspectives. Just try not to get so emotional about it.

How many of these bridges do you want to bet are overpasses over small roads? I probably pass more driving to Buffalo on the Thruway.

Canadian civil engineers don't have as much experience with this sort of construction as their American counterparts, which is why it ended up being so complicated.

So you said they "eventually have to do" what they're already doing? Do you charge your employer for your brainpower?

                            Yup.

The Calgary electorate, which just recently elected this mayor (the first Muslim mayor of a major city in North America, IIRC), isn't mature enough or experienced enough to elect a man like him. Wait, what?

Damn Kuci, how far can you keep digging?

                            • But the focus is still on transit. In the next year, a new LRT line to the West is opening up. After that, an LRT line to the southeast and north-central. They've been extending the existing lines (couple new stations opening next year). It's been proven over several decades that the LRT-focused approach is the most cost effective. You should be all over this, you pinko commie.
On a dollar per dollar basis - LRT is much more inefficient than expanding the highway infrastructure to accommodate the growth of Calgary.

Now you're playing the "I was only kidding" card to back out of the prior discussion by posting **** like this. Predictable, but I'm okay with your tacit admission.
