It can be hard to wrap your mind around such amazing truths
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow
"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." - Mark Twain
If it has happened, then it is verifiable. If Jesus was the son of god, what did his Y chromosome look like?
I believe that He had a Y chromosome similar to every other human being as He was 100% human. But He was also 100% divine. So how exactly do you intend to investigate that scientifically?

Huh? He didn't say 'ie on the religious side'. Maybe I'm just having a dumb moment, but he seemed to be being confusing.
To be clear, yes I meant on the religious side. Some don't like to use such language, but it is an absurdity (to believe that a virgin could give birth in that day in age). It takes faith to believe such a thing, which is a miracle of itself. It is for the glory of God, just like a mountain range.

You do realize that dropping your Canadian citizenship is not going to mean you never lived in Canada? You can't change what happened in the past, and neither can USCIS ...
If I understand immigration laws correctly, Ben will not be allowed to ever become a dual citizen.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "
I think this is a great demonstration on the use of free speech.
Now the Palestinians need to mobilize with ads calling for Judaism to be defeated -- perhaps with some caricatures of Jewish people with large, crooked noses, with svelte swastikas bordering the poster.
Capitalism wins, nobody loses!

Is that due to Canadian laws?
In regards to US law it's possible for immigrants to keep their citizenship. As part of naturalization you do have to swear "to renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which the applicant was before a subject or citizen." But in practice this doesn't require any formal action to renounce citizenship you already have.
Section 349 of the INA [8 USC § 1481] specifies several conditions under which US citizenship may be lost. These include:
becoming a naturalized citizen of another country, or declaring allegiance to another country, after reaching age 18;
So I couldn't have dual citizenship. But Net could.

My uncle is a dual citizen. Born in Canada - moved to the States about 10 years ago as a legal alien - acquired his green card, became a resident of the US and received his citizenship about a year or so ago. You're gravely misinformed.

I personally feel that I ought to renounce for this precise reason. But it's not, by law, required. Yes, Aeson, if Net wanted to become an American citizen - she could do so.

Plus, when you want to go visit Israel in the future who knows if it would be beneficial to be able to have a Canadian passport. If/When Obama sides with Iran you might lose your chance!
If I were you I'd keep my Canadian citizenship just in case someday the US isn't where you want to live.
Bad advice. He should renounce his Cdn citizenship asap.

As an individual I wouldn't have an issue with (anyone) swearing loyalty to one nation while retaining citizenship in another which doesn't see that as a limitation on their citizenship. Just as I wouldn't see an issue with having a bank account in a foreign country while naturalizing to another, or getting a drivers license in a country you don't have citizenship. If there isn't a legal or ethical conflict in doing so, why unnecessarily limit your choices?
As I said, it's a personal choice and a personal decision. I have no issues with folks with dual citizenship. It's got nothing to do with my ideology or faith anything like that.
If I were you I'd keep my Canadian citizenship just in case someday the US isn't where you want to live. You've already been in a situation where where you were wasn't where you wanted to be, and can see the benefit of being (relatively) free to go where you want to be. Having Canadian citizenship is meaningless if you don't "use" it (and if that ever changed you could just drop it), but could mean a whole lot if someday your view (or the state of) Canada vs US changes. Plus it will mean you can go home to visit your family easier (not a big deal now, but we're always changing our view of borders and immigration).
With American citizenship, I wouldn't have any difficulty going up there and visiting them. The only difficulty that would arise would be if I were to stay up for 6 months plus, and I'm not quite sure why I would want to do that.
As for changing my mind about the US - I know it's no bed of roses. But it's still much better than Canada, even with Harper running the show up north and Obama down here. I can see you saying that if I'd only seen the positive side of things - but I've been through quite a bit in my time here and not all of it has been great. Even the worst days down here are better than the 'good' days up in Canada.
Thanks for the advice Aeson - it's the same thing my uncle told me. It's just, I've been working so long for this one goal - I hope you understand just how much getting there would mean to me.
