It mitigates it slightly. Access Cards are not quite as liquid as cash.

In my mind, that sight mitigation trumps the full freedom of choice afforded by cash. Although also to be considered, cash disbursements may be cheaper to administer, though I doubt that.

When I was in school, full price school lunches cost $2. I don't know how subsidized those lunches were but suppose a school lunch cost the district that $2. Would you be in favor of students that receive free school lunches to receive $2 that they can do as they would with it?

Why not have the local church do it? Have people come in at lunch, and they'd cook and make a nutritious lunch for free. I know plenty of folks that would be thrilled to do that sort of thing on a volunteer basis.

I'm sure Ben is talking about the church doing it from their resources, NOT taking government money. After all in the US, there is a clear seperation of Church and State that would make tax dollars going to religious run social programs clearly illegal. (btw - I do know that Dubbya move a lot tax money to churches to do just that - which really does violate your constitution, but both Dems & Repugs won't change it. Repugs like it and Dems don't want to appear anti-church)

The problem is most people (especially poor people, for various obvious reasons) are really really really dumb and incapable of running their lives (usually why they are poor to begin with!). Ideals are one thing. I am pro-life. I wish there were no abortions and I think one day we will view abortions as we do infanticide. But it seems like a necessary evil even though birth control is so cheap, abundant, and easy to use that there's really no excuse for unwanted pregnancies!

You ever talk to someone who works at Planned Parenthood? They say it's often the same people they see every few months come in for an abortion. They teach them about contraception but the people aren't interested; birth control will make them fat, their man doesn't like condoms, and a bunch of other stupid ****. So they keep coming back every few months for abortion after abortion.

I think if it weren't for an elite minority in prehistory, we'd be animalistic savages. I sometimes wonder if feral children are proof of this; one would think that a feral child, left without human culture, would resemble a prehistoric human (a caveman), exhibiting some contenance of intelligent wonder and restraint, not behave like a beast. But if feral children is how our species behave in the absence of culture, where did culture come from since it surely didn't come from people behaving as such? It didn't come from god or aliens; it must have come from an elite minority.

There's no contradiction in what I said. I never said stupid people don't deserve to live and even if I had, it would still not be a contradiction because any given fetus could be smart.

Romney's comments ring true. The liberal intellectuals don't see it because they're not in the hood.

Romney didn't merely claim that people do this, he described the 47% of Americans who didn't pay federal income last year this way. Even though something like half of those people paid payroll tax and many are senior citizens who no doubt held jobs and contributed to society before they retired. Expressing contempt for such a large number of Americans and claiming that 47% "don't want to take responsibility for their lives" is pretty stupid.

I believe that Obamacare is intended to weaken certain charities, not strengthen them. Why didn't Obama grant waivers to all non-profit charities?

Yes, I know people, quite a few of them who would be happy to volunteer and do it. If the school isn't willing to accept charity - then I guess the kids should go without.

Interesting. So when they are needed, they shouldn't be used, and when they should be used, they aren't needed. I think this is crap. The whole purpose of a charity is that it runs and it helps people with whatever resources they get. Good or bad.
