Film makers are not personally responsible for the savagery of Muslims. The U.S. government is responsible, as an institution, to protect and uphold the film maker's right to free expression. How could that stance amaze you?

Walk into a theatre and shout 'FIRE!' at the top of your lungs. The government will obviously uphold your right to free expression. I'm sure their reaction will not amaze you.

Criticizing mohammad is not shouting fire in a crowded theater, it is quite obviously protected speech. There is no justice in US supreme court history who would have said that it is not okay to criticize Mohammad in any manner you wish.

You may notice that the guy who made the film has rightly not been arrested by the authorities. You can be held responsible for something that you've done without it having to be a legal crime.

Too often we, unfortunately, link responsibility to "legal responsibility" and not moral responsibility. There is a far deeper level of responsibility than simply what is not illegal.
