Me too, but I'd draw a line between saying critical things that have purpose and deliberately inciting hatred. Then again I'm also in favour of comedians being able to joke about anything the hell they want, so drawing the lines between artistic expression/responsibility/freedom of speech etc is far from easy.

This. You don't apologize for the offensive material. If it were me, I'd make more of itOriginally posted by Wezil View PostI'm bothered by the premise we shouldn't say 'not nice' things about people in fear of them rioting.
Civilized folk respond with dialogue not killing.

The problem with our recent efforts to shoot and bomb our values into foreigners is that they weren't accompanied by the kind of brutal economic exploitation that would make them cost-effective in the long term. It worked just fine with Cortez and the Aztecs, because he had him some nice encomiendas. Perhaps a series of oil-plantations?Originally posted by Felch View PostI think we should set absurd demands, like a ten billion dollar weregild or all their oil for a year. Then we'll just bomb them until they pay.

Film makers are not personally responsible for the savagery of Muslims. The U.S. government is responsible, as an institution, to protect and uphold the film maker's right to free expression. How could that stance amaze you?Originally posted by kentonio View PostIt's amazing how the fans of the party of personal responsibility seem to forget all that when people decide to do stupid, idiotic things that then lead to other peoples deaths. How many times now have things like this caused extremists to riot and take lives? Does that mean people shouldn't be allowed to condemn Islam? Hell no it doesn't, but when they take the decision to do something they know is inflammatory and will provoke a reaction, then they should have the balls to stand up and take responsibility for that action, which in this case is the deaths of 4 people.
What exactly do you want the government to say? Should they encourage people to insult Islam (in the process insulting millions of Maerican citizens too)?John Brown did nothing wrong.

Anything contrary to one's religious beliefs can fall into that category.Originally posted by kentonio View PostMe too, but I'd draw a line between saying critical things that have purpose and deliberately inciting hatred. If mohammed was a ruthless murderous womamizing pedophile can we not say so?
Do we have to pretend stalin was a nice guy too? Of course not, there's no religion involved in that debate..."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

I saw that photo described as "civilians helping injured staffers".
Does it look like he's being dragged or helped?"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

I'm trying to diffuse the issue with humor, because this implication (and somewhat outright saying) we should respond to this act of violence by assauging our need for vengence on people unrelated to it hurts my heart and makes me want to yell and scream at the people who are asserting it.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Can you really calm people looking to vent over imagined slights to false price?Originally posted by gribbler View PostNevertheless the president needs to stay calm and try to calm down the angry idiots in Libya.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara
For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Targeted is fine, but talking about killing civilians as if that'll make things better is ludicrous and makes begin the understand God's thinking when he wanted to drown the world (I realize that's slightly contradictory).“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
