Me too, but I'd draw a line between saying critical things that have purpose and deliberately inciting hatred. Then again I'm also in favour of comedians being able to joke about anything the hell they want, so drawing the lines between artistic expression/responsibility/freedom of speech etc is far from easy.

I think we should set absurd demands, like a ten billion dollar weregild or all their oil for a year. Then we'll just bomb them until they pay.

The problem with our recent efforts to shoot and bomb our values into foreigners is that they weren't accompanied by the kind of brutal economic exploitation that would make them cost-effective in the long term. It's amazing how the fans of the party of personal responsibility seem to forget all that when people decide to do stupid, idiotic things that then lead to other peoples deaths. How many times now have things like this caused extremists to riot and take lives? Does that mean people shouldn't be allowed to condemn Islam? Hell no it doesn't, but when they take the decision to do something they know is inflammatory and will provoke a reaction, then they should have the balls to stand up and take responsibility for that action, which in this case is the deaths of 4 people.

What exactly do you want the government to say? Should they encourage people to insult Islam (in the process insulting millions of Maerican citizens too)?

Film makers are not personally responsible for the savagery of Muslims. The U.S. government is responsible, as an institution, to protect and uphold the film maker's right to free expression. How could that stance amaze you?
