      No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

      • I suppose the UK has such a great social welfare system because the government has been headed by a long line of David Copperfields and Oliver Twists.

          You've never heard of the Labour Party? Incidentally Margaret Thatcher was the daughter of a greengrocer and John Major's dad was a music hall performer. It's not considered unusual for us to elect politicians from working class or middle class backgrounds.

            Of poverty? Yeah, probably. Of how to fix it? Probably not. If we had any idea how to fix poverty completely, we would have done so by now.

                    His MBA probably gave him a fair education in economics.

                    • I just skimmed down the list of Labour party leaders.

                      Ramsay MacDonald is the only one that comes close. The rest look middle class or better. Even Millibrand was violinist in school.

                        Economics = understanding of poverty?

                        • Economics is the study of scarcity. Poverty is one of the consequences of scarcity. Yeah.

                            Like John Clynes, son of a labourer? Arthur henderson, illegitimate son of a domestic servant? George Lansbury, son of a migrant labourer?

                            How about more recently Neil Kinnock, son of a miner?

                              I didn't see what you added after the question mark until just now. Doesn't Thatcher torpedo your argument?
