No-one gives a **** about which rich folk in the past had the interests of the poor in mind, they care about the rich GOP folks of TODAY who time after time show they do not understand, empathise or even care about the struggles of the poor.Originally posted by The Mad Monk View PostThe argument has been made that the filthy rich cannot help "the 99%" because the filthy rich cannot understand them.
I ask how that covers the Roosevelts. I'll throw in a handfull of Kennedys for good measure.

This is an argument made by a woman who is absolutely sure Obama is a secret Muslim and is still going to vote for him. I'm not going to bother trying to defend her beliefs. Presidents don't need to be able to relate to the people to know what policies will and won't be effective. And presidents (and candidates) by and large do care about poor people, otherwise there'd be no point in going through what is thought to be the extraordinarily gruelling process of becoming and then being president. Unless they get a hard on for the nuclear football.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Thanks, TMM. I wasn't alive during Nixon's term and thus have no capacity whatsoever to know anything about him.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

They only care about it today because the GOP candidate is rich and it gives them a chance to milk this generalization to attack him. All rich people are not the same. What narrative? It doesn't need a damn narrative when people can see and listen to Mitt and Ann Romney interviews where they talk about how things got so bad at times that they had to sell stock to get by. They understand the poor peoples struggles you see!Originally posted by The Mad Monk View PostYOU don't give a **** because it's inconvenient for the narrative.

No-one says they are the same, and there's plenty of obvious examples such as the Gates' donating billions to charity and Buffet calling for higher taxes on people like himself. The relevant rich people though are the ones who want to run the country, and I'd love you to point out which of them is on the side of the angels.Originally posted by rah View PostThey only care about it today because the GOP candidate is rich and it gives them a chance to milk this generalization to attack him. Why would people want to be represented by someone who had literally no concept of the kind of lives they lead? Why would they assume that persons policies will help them in any way? People vote for the president who they think will improve their lives, and how can someone improve something they don't even understand?Originally posted by The Mad Monk View PostWhat does that have to do with being president? They shouldn't have to bring that up at all.
