Does this mean the election will finally move beyond the pathetic small ball (Tax return debates and accusing Romney of murder) that has typified it thus far? As it finally looks as if Romney is ready to make an ideological case against reelecting Obama.

Yes, it's now going to move onto things like seniors and poor people realizing how completely ****ed they will be if Romney/Ryan get into office. Romney just tied himself 100% to the Ryan ideology.

Seriously. It'd be far, far better for Romney to, say, pick Ryan as Secretary of the Treasury if he became President than actually put him on the damned ballot! Especially when Florida was one of those states which was important for victory.

And of course the Rand in Rand Paul...

                But no. Different guys.

You could kind of tell anyway because Paul is Ron Paul's last name and Paul Ryan's last name is Ryan
Clearly, Romney hopes that voter confusion due to similarity of names will get him the votes of people who like Paul Ryan, Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Ayn Rand, plus perhaps fans of Ars Tehnica open-source editor Ryan Paul and graphics/logo designer Paul Rand...

                Fiendishly clever.

BTW, this begs the question: Why TF are they having conventions? There is literally nothing to be done.

Let have a few debates, sling a little mud, and vote.

Will be just as disappointing as the Palin-Biden debate.

The fact that the Romney campaign chose make this announcement on a Saturday morning -- outside the news cycle -- is, shall we say, curious. Generally speaking, that's what you do when you DON'T want people talking about something.

                            I don't think that makes a difference anymore. It's not the 1960's.

You're wrong. New cycles are still relevant.

It was a very distinct choice, and it was for a reason.

It might have been a desperate attempt to make Romney appear "with it" in the Twitterverse (and if so, sadly misguided).

But avoiding the mainstream news channels and attendant FoxFest orchestration still seems odd.
