Why do you say that? There are problems that plague the black community like drugs, gangs etc... But I think anti-discrimination laws have done some good. That's not to say that blacks are equally represented, but they are better represented than they used to be.

Out of wedlock births are much higher today than in 1960. It's around 75 percent now. That has stark effects on poverty and on educational attainment by black children.

Blaming other people for their bad decisions is what is keeping them there. I want to address the real problems rather than papering them over. If we are willing to accept that they cannot do as well as others, that is very different from demanding that they step up and get it done.

I teach kids all different stripes, all different backgrounds. I'm not going to give a minority student an extra bonus to ensure that their grades are exactly the same. No. I'm going to mark them the exact same. If that means they fail, then they fail. If they pull their pants up and work they will be rewarded for it with better grades. We are robbing them of the chance to learn how to succeed by accepting that they cannot do as well.

I don't think that the problem is that they are blaming others. I was a teacher too, and I've thought alot about this, and wonder why it's so hard to motivate some poor students. It's because they are where they are. You aren't going to motivate them by failing them. They are just going to end up in prison or on welfare, and that's not helping anyone. I'm not saying that you should give them grades that they don't deserve. I'm just saying that you aren't going to get through to them by failing them. You've got to communicate with them. They need to understand that it's just not well enough to do just as well as their parents.

You can say that CfA might not have known everything FRC were doing, and you can say that congress pass a lot of meaningless ****, but please don't try and give FRC a free pass on this. They deliberately lobbied for something deeply unpleasant and they deserve to be vilified for it.
